Very nearly caught up…

…but not quite.  I got all of this week’s work done, but I now have some more for next week.  Still, being a freelancer, I can’t complain about work coming in, even if I do kind of wish it would be more balanced throughout the year.

Geth is now Netflixing Robin Hood: Men In Tights, one of the many films I have never seen before.  It’s fairly amusing.

Change of scenery tomorrow because I’ll be helping Geth pack up his office (the university is moving staff around its buildings, as universities tend to do).  It’ll be nice to get out of the house!

Light at the end of the tunnel

Another productive work day today – just one more tomorrow, and I should be fully caught up with work for the first time in weeks.  There have been a few clients making queries about availability next week, but hopefully – hopefully! – I will finally have a bit of time for getting on with house stuff again.  I have so many plans, and it’s frustrating that I don’t have the time to carry them out right now!

Other than work, it’s been a fairly sedate evening with a bit of writing and a lot of getting excited about autumn.  I can almost taste September now.

A productive Tuesday

A proper full day back working today, and it was super productive and very interesting.  Maybe I should go to four-day festivals more often!

Or possibly it was due to the ongoing soundtracks of Geth’s videogaming.  He’s finally finished Final Fantasy XIII-2 and has now moved onto Lego Star Wars: The Clone Wars.  Even though there’s a lot of good story in most videogames, I actually find them less distracting than having the Now! ’80s channel on TV, probably because I end up watching half the videos and/or singing along to the songs.

Same again tomorrow, hopefully!  If I’m really productive work-wise I may even have time for some writing in the evening as well.

OOTD 28th August 2018
OOTD: it’s cold enough for the first jumper of the nearly-autumn! Plus we’re back to the daily reflection of Geth in the patio doors. Jumper unknown brand (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2017), jeans Vivid (2018), trainers Reebok (2017).

Useful/useless knowledge

One of those days working for lots of different clients, and hence reading lots of different interesting things.  I now know a bit more about astrobiology and financial trading than I did this morning.

Hardly any of the papers I edit for my clients (who are almost all academics) are on topics that I would ever have thought to look into for myself.  Nevertheless, I almost always find them interesting, and have added significantly to my stock of useless knowledge through my editing work.

I just need to find a pub quiz that regularly has rounds on sociological theory and statistical equations, so I can put it to good use!

OOTD 21st August 2018
OOTD: developing something of a uniform. T-shirt Tracker for Pride and Fall (2006), jeans H&M (thrifted from Steff 2016), shoes Vivienne Westwood Anglomania for Melissa (2018).

A different beat

Back to work today!  Another full day to get on with things before a hectic weekend.

Again, I did a pre-weigh-in SP day today – I’m at a wedding this weekend where there will obviously be a lot of eating and drinking, followed by a midweek visit from some of the in-laws, so I’m hoping to lose a couple of pounds as a buffer.  There’s been a bit more alcohol this week than there should have been, so we’ll see!  Fingers crossed.

(My first couple of months at target, incidentally, have really proven to me what I already knew: the summer is definitely the hardest time of year for me to stay on plan.)

Geth’s been away this afternoon and evening, so I’ve been taking the opportunity to listen to music that’s not Lisa and Kieran’s wedding playlist, courtesy of the Now! ’80s channel!

OOTD 8th August 2018
OOTD: that is my slightly grumpy ‘it’s still stupidly hot, where is this cooling down that everyone’s talking about?’ face. Dress unknown brand (thrifted from Steff in 2016).

It makes for interesting reading

Um, well, this blog post probably won’t, to be fair, as today was just another nice quiet day that I was able to spend working and listening to Geth DJing.  What I mean is that, on days like today, my job makes for interesting reading.  I’ve been working for four different clients today and so I’ve been reading about lots of varied things.  I’ve got lots of big projects on the go at the moment, and it’s a bit nicer doing it that way!

A slightly more hectic day tomorrow, but hopefully I will still have time to get lots of work done.

OOTD 6th August 2018
OOTD: another comfy working-from-home outfit. Vest top Batman (2018), leggings Primark (2018), shoes Zara (2018).

A working Sunday

I’d normally get a bit grumpy about working on a Sunday, but it’s been really nice to have a day with absolutely nothing else going on so that I can just get on with things and get loads of it done.  Some really interesting stuff from my various clients at the moment as well!

It’s also been nicely soundtracked by Geth continuing to work on the wedding disco playlist for Lisa and Kieran’s wedding.  I’ve only been distracted from work by needing to get up and dance…three or four times.  I’m doing well.

Looking forward to an early night tonight so that I can get up and start work early again tomorrow.  I’m so exciting these days.

OOTD 5th August 2018
OOTD: still in the house, still comfy. Jacket unknown brand (bought at vintage shop 2003, estimated 1990s – also mentioned here), dress Oodji (2018), shoes BHS (2016).

Days spent in the house

Two days in a row without leaving the house!  I can’t remember the last time that happened.

To be fair, I was meant to go for a run this morning, but I’ve decided to push that to Friday, largely because the jetlag is still ongoing and I had a lot of other things to do today.

As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve got a lot of work on for the next month.  It includes projects for about five different clients, which keeps it nice and interesting.  I’m also still trying to work on the house – today I at least got it tidied up, which makes it a much more comfortable space for working in.

SP day today to try and shift that holiday weight before Slimming World weigh-in on Thursday!  Doing another one tomorrow.  I had all-day breakfast for tea tonight, but I actually found it to be a bit heavy, so I might try something more salad-y tomorrow night.

OOTD 31st July 2018
OOTD: hoodie Sonar (2006), t-shirt Katharine Hamnett for Help Refugees (2017), trousers Christian Siriano Runway Style (2018), shoes 1st Position (2018).

Summer mugginess

Somehow, despite saying after last summer – which involved a busy work period and four weekends on the bounce in August where we were travelling away somewhere or hosting guests – that I wanted to have a much more chilled summer this year, it’s ended up being similarly hectic.

Fortunately/unfortunately work has been quiet during June and July (so I’ve been able to get on with other things, but I’m also a bit broke now).  Fortunately/unfortunately this will not be the case during August as I have two huge projects lined up (more money – yay!  More stuff to do – argh).  However, the house stuff is still ongoing, the now-finished Now! marathon ended up taking up more time towards the end than I thought it would, and Geth and I ended up booking a lot more trips away than we expected.  As such, I find myself doing the whole ‘argh! can’t wait till autumn when I can relax a bit!’ thing yet again – and I shouldn’t wish the summer away, especially when the weather has been so nice this year.

Today is yet another hectic day – I’ll update more fully later this week – so I’ll leave it there.

Oh, and I went swimming again this morning.  Eight lengths this time, although I think I’m actually getting worse!

Clean house therapy

I hate cleaning, but as I didn’t have time to do it during my month-long busy work period, the house was a pigsty by the end of last week.  What’s more, we’ve got people in the house who aren’t us at various points over the next few weeks, so today I just gritted my teeth and got on with it.  The house is clean and tidy now, and I feel so much better for it.

Generally, clutter and mess really depress me, so in an ideal world I would just clean the house once a week in order to keep on top of it and keep my surroundings pleasant and comforting.  However, sometimes there just isn’t the time, and as a result my mood drops, often without me realising why.

Having cleaned, I feel so much better tonight than I have done all week!  I’d feel even better if the house was properly finished in terms of the piles of boxes that are still unpacked, but that’s still a few months away.  One step at a time.
