At times like this when I have a lot to do, I’m really glad of my fairly obsessively organised daily to-do list. I do have a good memory but it can be quite stressful to hold everything in my brain at once, and I feel much better when it’s all written down.
There are probably hundreds of non-urgent items on the ‘future’ part of the list at the moment. I tend to develop huge backlogs of such things (too many project ideas, not enough time). It’ll be nice to be able to pick and choose again when I’m no longer super busy.
It’s been another challenging week in our house – between our heavy loads of work/studying/running, the saga of my laptop replacement, dealing with Zombie Eye IV, and a bit of a shock yesterday when we received a letter telling us the company scheduled to do our front garden this year had gone bankrupt (resulting in us needing to find some way of getting our rather large deposit back), it has been extremely eventful and it feels like last weekend was months ago!
Other than a bit of admin relating to some of the above – and finding a parkrun near us that will actually be going ahead tomorrow morning – I expect I will be spending a lot of the weekend staring into space on the sofa. If I do find some energy from somewhere, I may try and get some of my less-taxing course modules done so that I’m not panicking so much at the end of February.
Tonight, though, I most definitely need a couple of hours of Not Doing Anything At AllTM!
…but not quite. I got all of this week’s work done, but I now have some more for next week. Still, being a freelancer, I can’t complain about work coming in, even if I do kind of wish it would be more balanced throughout the year.
Geth is now Netflixing Robin Hood: Men In Tights, one of the many films I have never seen before. It’s fairly amusing.
Change of scenery tomorrow because I’ll be helping Geth pack up his office (the university is moving staff around its buildings, as universities tend to do). It’ll be nice to get out of the house!
Today’s earworm playlist:
Bananarama – I Want You Back
Prince – Kiss
Mesh – Friends Like These
Steps – One For Sorrow
Paul Young – Come Back And Stay
Soft Cell – Say Hello, Wave Goodbye
Pop Will Eat Itself – Def Con One
Another productive work day today – just one more tomorrow, and I should be fully caught up with work for the first time in weeks. There have been a few clients making queries about availability next week, but hopefully – hopefully! – I will finally have a bit of time for getting on with house stuff again. I have so many plans, and it’s frustrating that I don’t have the time to carry them out right now!
Other than work, it’s been a fairly sedate evening with a bit of writing and a lot of getting excited about autumn. I can almost taste September now.
Today’s earworm playlist:
Culture Club – Do You Really Want To Hurt Me?
Fleetwood Mac – The Chain
Whitesnake – Is This Love?
Lady Gaga – The Edge Of Glory
The Human League – (Keep Feeling) Fascination
Disney’s Peter Pan – Your Mother And Mine
Final Fantasy XIII-2 – Plains Of Eternity
Duran Duran – My Own Way
Mesh – Last One Standing
Björk and David Arnold – Play Dead
Wham! – Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go
The Human League – The Lebanon
Duran Duran – Rio
Sash! – Ecuador
(Um, yes, the last few may have got into my head while I was having a good gaze at one of my globes. It’s been that kind of evening.)
A proper full day back working today, and it was super productive and very interesting. Maybe I should go to four-day festivals more often!
Or possibly it was due to the ongoing soundtracks of Geth’s videogaming. He’s finally finished Final Fantasy XIII-2 and has now moved onto Lego Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Even though there’s a lot of good story in most videogames, I actually find them less distracting than having the Now! ’80s channel on TV, probably because I end up watching half the videos and/or singing along to the songs.
Same again tomorrow, hopefully! If I’m really productive work-wise I may even have time for some writing in the evening as well.
Today’s earworm playlist:
Spice Girls – Too Much
George Harrison – When We Was Fab
Duran Duran – Tel Aviv [AIR Studio Version]
Joy Division – She’s Lost Control
Robbie Williams – Let Love Be Your Energy
New Order – Temptation
David Bowie – Life On Mars
Scissor Sisters – Filthy/Gorgeous
Soft Cell – Say Hello, Wave Goodbye
One of those days working for lots of different clients, and hence reading lots of different interesting things. I now know a bit more about astrobiology and financial trading than I did this morning.
Hardly any of the papers I edit for my clients (who are almost all academics) are on topics that I would ever have thought to look into for myself. Nevertheless, I almost always find them interesting, and have added significantly to my stock of useless knowledge through my editing work.
I just need to find a pub quiz that regularly has rounds on sociological theory and statistical equations, so I can put it to good use!
Back to work today! Another full day to get on with things before a hectic weekend.
Again, I did a pre-weigh-in SP day today – I’m at a wedding this weekend where there will obviously be a lot of eating and drinking, followed by a midweek visit from some of the in-laws, so I’m hoping to lose a couple of pounds as a buffer. There’s been a bit more alcohol this week than there should have been, so we’ll see! Fingers crossed.
(My first couple of months at target, incidentally, have really proven to me what I already knew: the summer is definitely the hardest time of year for me to stay on plan.)
Geth’s been away this afternoon and evening, so I’ve been taking the opportunity to listen to music that’s not Lisa and Kieran’s wedding playlist, courtesy of the Now! ’80s channel!
Um, well, this blog post probably won’t, to be fair, as today was just another nice quiet day that I was able to spend working and listening to Geth DJing. What I mean is that, on days like today, my job makes for interesting reading. I’ve been working for four different clients today and so I’ve been reading about lots of varied things. I’ve got lots of big projects on the go at the moment, and it’s a bit nicer doing it that way!
A slightly more hectic day tomorrow, but hopefully I will still have time to get lots of work done.
I’d normally get a bit grumpy about working on a Sunday, but it’s been really nice to have a day with absolutely nothing else going on so that I can just get on with things and get loads of it done. Some really interesting stuff from my various clients at the moment as well!
It’s also been nicely soundtracked by Geth continuing to work on the wedding disco playlist for Lisa and Kieran’s wedding. I’ve only been distracted from work by needing to get up and dance…three or four times. I’m doing well.
Looking forward to an early night tonight so that I can get up and start work early again tomorrow. I’m so exciting these days.
Two days in a row without leaving the house! I can’t remember the last time that happened.
To be fair, I was meant to go for a run this morning, but I’ve decided to push that to Friday, largely because the jetlag is still ongoing and I had a lot of other things to do today.
As I mentioned yesterday, I’ve got a lot of work on for the next month. It includes projects for about five different clients, which keeps it nice and interesting. I’m also still trying to work on the house – today I at least got it tidied up, which makes it a much more comfortable space for working in.
SP day today to try and shift that holiday weight before Slimming World weigh-in on Thursday! Doing another one tomorrow. I had all-day breakfast for tea tonight, but I actually found it to be a bit heavy, so I might try something more salad-y tomorrow night.
