Happy Hallowe’en!

After a long week of work/studying I have had a very enjoyable weekend of carving lanterns, baking cake, watching Hallowe’en TV shows and finishing off my short spooky game for EctoComp (available to play here!). I am now going to have a very relaxed Hallowe’en night with some atmospheric films and lighting. Hope you all have a good one too!

Neep and pumpkin lanterns
Traditional neep lantern alongside the much bigger pumpkin one. The innards of both of these made a very nice cake which we are enjoying today!

parkrunday: Town Moor #517

I think this is the first time since the restart that Geth and I have attended the same parkrun location two weeks in a row! If I’d had more energy and/or time, I might have organised a trip further afield to one of the parkruns that does Hallowe’en fancy dress… but I just don’t have brainspace for organising additional logistics at the moment, so Town Moor it was. Next year might be my Hallowe’en parkrun year!

I’m still pretty slow at the moment (and the strong winds today didn’t help) but I managed a faster time than I have done for the last couple of months, so I’m happy with that. I think Monday’s sports massage really helped iron out a lot of my issues.

Post-parkrun
A bit wet and cold this morning, which just makes us appreciate being inside for the rest of the weekend all the more 🙂

A volunteer slot next week!

Semi-flying Friday post… and some bonus coding adventures!

I’ll double up earworm playlists next week (maybe by then I’ll have got all the Hallowe’en songs out of my head) but just a quick post today to enthuse about all my coding adventures! I’m still merrily rolling along with my TechUp course (absolutely loving learning Python) and today have managed to spend four hours making my Petite Mort entry for the EctoComp game competition! Now to get some last-minute testing done over the weekend… though there’s a lot of Hallowe’en watching to be done as well 🙂

Skeletal!
This character is something to be avoided in my new game!

Phone Box Thursday: St Katharine’s Docks, London

Here’s another London box from near our hotel. This one was tucked away on the walkway along St Katharine’s Docks, and while looking for it on Google Street View I found one or two more I’d missed. Something to remember for the next visit!

A largely empty box, but it does have a plaque inside (when zoomed in this appears to provide information about the various types of phone boxes). I missed that when photographing it as we were in a hurry for lunch! Another aspect to check next time we’re there.

We’ll be in London for a few more weeks yet…

Up a gear

I’m not going to be writing long blog posts for a while, I don’t think. Work plus studying plus life admin is really all-encompassing, and so I’m just not going to have the time to write screeds and screeds over the next few weeks/months. I will do a short update every day to let you know how I’m getting on though!

I collected the car from the garage today and I’ve got another chunk of studying done. Tomorrow is a day for getting all of this week’s day job work done (hopefully!) and then I’ll be back to the course on Thursday and Friday. It seems to be taking a bit longer than advertised to get through all the work, but hopefully I’ll feel vaguely caught up by the weekend.

Lots to do this evening too!

An inbetween day

Lots of appointments today. I had a sports massage at the physio this morning (great to work out some of the issues from the summer training block and get some professional opinions and advice on my various issues), then had an hour at home before I needed to take the car in for its MOT, and after I got back from that I was waiting to hear when I could pick it up… so I didn’t feel able to get into any big projects or anything. I did lots of small jobs instead. Then the garage called and said they needed to keep the car in overnight… oh well. Tomorrow is a lot quieter (other than picking up the car) so I’ll be able to get back into my work and studying!

I am thoroughly in the swing of Hallowe’en week now and am looking forward to curling up with some scary films at the weekend. Not wishing the week away, though – there are a lot of fun things to watch and Hallowe’en sweets to eat in the meantime.

Hallowe'en hearth
Quite possibly my favourite Hallowe’en hearth ever. Only the big pumpkin and the neep will be getting carved because the small gourds look absolutely fabulous as they are! Bonus shot of one of my many pairs of Hallowe’en leggings in the fireplace reflection.

parkrunday: Town Moor #516

It was back to the Moor today as Geth and I had new race t-shirts to show off. My sciatica issues from last week seem to have quietened down for now *looks around anxiously* and I’m not suffering too much stiffness. As such, it’s really just lack of energy and speed training that’s making me slow at the moment! I need to put up with that for a couple more months, though, as I’m determined to have a proper break from hard training until the next marathon training block starts in January.

However, I was about three minutes faster than my last parkrun on the Moor two weeks ago! This was despite some tough wind conditions. I’m finding that I have enough energy to go a bit faster on the last mile, so in future weeks I’m going to try pushing back the point at which I speed up and seeing if I can sustain that pace for longer.

Post-parkrun
Colder than it has been but fine when running. The hoodies went back on fairly quickly though!

I haven’t made a decision about next week’s parkrun location yet. Will have to wait and see what fits in best with Hallowe’en weekend…

Double time

It’s been a manic week and I am so glad it’s the weekend. Studying and working at the same time is tough, especially with all the other things I need to do. I’m really enjoying the course though.

Tomorrow I’ll be parkrunning and game-creating and doing other active/productive hobby stuff, but I’m going to arrange another Shouldless Sunday for the following day. I’m really looking forward to a day on the sofa with my videogames! I just don’t have time for them otherwise at the moment…

Red velvet cake
Another of last Sunday’s cakes! I love red velvet cake and this slice was perfect.
