Waiting for autumn

A combination of things has put me a little out of sorts the last couple of days, so I didn’t go to parkrun this morning. Not quite up for leaving the house just now. Still, as I type there are only four hours to go until the start of meteorological autumn, my favourite time of the year. Maybe I’ll stick my nose out of the door tomorrow in the hope of finding autumn leaves and cooling temperatures.

I’ve been playing videogames all day instead. Same again tomorrow, although I do need to get up and do a bit of admin/editing work in the morning to keep myself sane.

OOTD 31st August 2019
OOTD: not a face day. Hoodie Gildan for Resistanz (2013), t-shirt M’era Luna (2017).

Gunship – Dark All Day

Escapism

I had a day off today, so I’ve just been videogaming. Planning similar over the weekend – it’ll be really nice to have some quiet time!

New Hits will be posted over the weekend.

Grim Fandango
Not an OOTD: Geth was playing the remastered version of Grim Fandango on the Switch today. It didn’t need much upgrading from the original ’90s version but it’s nice that all the kinks have been ironed out and it looks a bit smoother.

Today’s earworm playlist:

Timecop1983 and Primo – My DeLorean
Adam & The Ants – Prince Charming
Duran Duran – Planet Earth

Other worlds…all of them

Poetry night went really well last night. I can finally say that I don’t feel nervous about reading my poems any more! Getting up there once a month is doing wonders for my confidence.

It was the usual Thursday routine today. Geth and I went to Slimming World and then the supermarket this morning, and I’ve been getting the house ready for boardgaming guests coming round this evening. I also got a bit more videogaming done, which is really helping me relax and escape from world events at the moment.

Back to catching up with admin and writing tomorrow.

Classic Pop issue 56
Not an OOTD: today I’m just in my usual weigh-in outfit that you’ve seen a million times, so here’s something I bought instead. 2019 is turning into another year of hell out there in the world, but at least I can still buy magazines with Duran Duran on the front cover. You gotta escape somehow.

Today’s earworm playlist:

FM-84 – Bend And Break
Gunship – Dark All Day
Haircut 100 – Love Plus One
Duran Duran – Big Thing
Oasis – Cigarettes And Alcohol
Oasis – (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?
Adam Ant – Goody Two Shoes
David Bowie – Golden Years
The Midnight – Days Of Thunder
FM-84 and Ollie Wride – Running In The Night
Disney – Prince Ali*
The Timelords – Doctorin’ The TARDIS

*The MIDI version from the 1994 videogame. I booted it up on DOSBox this morning in celebration of the fact that they’re going to be bringing out an updated version on the Nintendo Switch soon!

Pre-poetry

Have mainly spent today getting my poems ready for the poetry night tonight and working on the preparation for one of my autumn writing projects. Have also spent a lot of time cuddling with next door’s cat (his humans are home this evening so I don’t expect he’ll come in as often now, but it has been nice!), and getting a bit more videogaming in.

I’m not anywhere near as nervous as I usually am before poetry night – maybe I’m getting more used to performing? I hope so!

OOTD 28th August 2019
OOTD: ready for heading out and reading some poems! Glasses Emporio Armani (2017), hoodie Uneek Classic for Mesh (2016), t-shirt Amplified (2018), jeans Miss Selfridge (2018).

Today’s earworm playlist:

Gunship – Dark All Day
Trevor Something – Summer Love
Duran Duran – The Chauffeur

Back to the keyboard

Bit of a slow day getting back to work today, but I’m getting there. I got a fairly good chunk of writing done this afternoon, and am planning out one of my projects.

Tomorrow needs to be a fuller, more productive day, as I have some poems to finalise before poetry night tomorrow! I also have a lot of stuff to catch up with by the end of the week so that I can have a clean slate for September.

In the meantime, though, I’m going to enjoy some videogaming time this evening!

OOTD 27th August 2019
OOTD: the dregs of summer. Dress Monteau (2018), shoes Primark (2018).

Today’s earworm playlist:

The Midnight – Lost Boy
Duran Duran – Notorious
The Midnight – Days Of Thunder
Duran Duran – The Chauffeur
Duran Duran – Late Bar
The Offspring – Pretty Fly (For A White Guy)

Finishing off the weekend

I’ve had a fairly quiet one today. Yesterday was a fun but long day – I went to an ’80s nostalgia mini-festival at the Wheatsheaf pub in Newcastle in the afternoon so that I could see the Breakfast Club (the ’80s tribute band that played at South Shields a few weeks ago) again.

The Breakfast Club
I was probably the closest person to the stage, but it was still difficult to see the band under that marquee. I reckon the venue were expecting rain!

Geth joined me for the second half of the gig, as well as some pub chips!

Rio shirt and chips
Both the Breakfast Club’s guitarist and the DJ complimented me on my ‘Rio’ top. Duranies represent!

After that, we went home to get ready for a night out clubbing. It took a little longer than expected, largely because our next-door neighbours are away and so their cat wants a lot of attention at the moment!

Cat cuddles
Cat cuddles are the BESTEST.

We took a quick detour to the Brewdog pub to meet up with friends and see the Re-Issues – yet another covers band! They had a lot of energy and really worked up a good atmosphere in the room.

The Re-Issues
More blurry gig photography. Highlights of this covers set included ‘Town Called Malice’, ‘Zombie’, ‘Sit Down’ and ‘Mr Brightside’.

Finally, we headed to Grey’s for the Rise Or Die synthwave night, NightDrive. It’s only the second time they’ve run the night (the first was four months ago, on Maundy Thursday), so it was really good to be able to hear some of my synthwave favourites on a night out.

NightDrive
Photo by Mish. I forgot to take a proper photo of my going-out outfit – will have to recreate it sometime soon!

I’m still finding nights out sober to be a bit difficult when everyone else is drinking, but hopefully I’ll get more used to it as time goes on. Either way, it would be nice if synthwave nights in Newcastle became a little more regular.

It was a long walk home from town (next time I’m taking the car!), so I didn’t get to bed until nearly 5am. As such, today has been a bit of a write-off! Geth and I ordered Domino’s for something to eat, and our friend Pete has been round to play some Keyforge with Geth, but we’re planning just to have a quiet evening with a film tonight.

Back to work tomorrow.

OOTD 26th August 2019
OOTD: ‘still half asleep’ outfit! T-shirt Gildan for Preverse (2015, modified 2018), leggings Miss Fiori (2015), boots Carefree (2017).

Today’s earworm playlist:

Timecop1983 and Primo – My DeLorean
Timecop1983 and The Bad Dreamers – Back To You
The Midnight and Nikki Flores – Jason
Rod Stewart – Baby Jane
The Midnight – Crystalline

Flying bank holiday post!

Posting this in between bank holiday Sunday music events. Will update all about it tomorrow!

Ice cream, September 1987
Not an OOTD: this is how we did it in 1987! No bank holiday Cornetto today, but I did enjoy some chips at event number one 🙂

Today’s earworm playlist:

The Midnight – Shadows
Geri Halliwell – Mi Chico Latino
Thought Beings – We Will Win
Kygo and Whitney Houston – Higher Love
The Midnight – Endless Summer

Rest days up ahead!

I went to Leazes parkrun this morning (it’s a new parkrun in central Newcastle – tourism post to follow), and didn’t do too badly considering that I ran twelve miles yesterday. Definitely need to rest the legs for a few days now though! Fifteen days left till the GNR – getting close…

Have spent the rest of the day chilling out, like a proper Saturday!

Garmin Forerunner 35
Not an OOTD: I look a bit worse for wear after two days of running so I think I’ll just show off my new running watch instead.

Today’s earworm playlist:

Gunship – The Mountain
Arcadia – The Flame
FM-84 and Ollie Wride – Running In The Night

Getting the legs in order

I did my longest GNR training run this morning – 19k. The last few weeks of training seem to be paying off as my legs are holding up quite well this evening – which is probably for the best seeing as I’ve got parkrun in the morning!

I had some work for a client to do this afternoon, but it’s all finished now and so bank holiday weekend is ON.

New Hits to follow tomorrow.

OOTD 23rd August 2019
OOTD: I’m not actually as tired as I look, I just couldn’t be bothered doing my makeup after my long run. Glasses Emporio Armani (2017), hoodie Uneek Classic for Mesh (2016), vest top Batman (2018).

Today’s earworm playlist:

The Midnight – Wave
Ollie Wride – Back To Life
The Midnight – Sunset
