parkrunday: Jesmond Dene #56

(It was touch and go whether I would make parkrun today, but there’s been a 48-hour extension to the deadline for the game competition I’m entering, so I’ve got a bit of breathing room to finish my game!)

A fairly slow one around Jesmond Dene this morning as my hip was still stiff after my 14-miler on Thursday. I took 46-ish minutes (slow even for me nowadays) and was surprised to find myself accompanied by the tailwalker, as it was a fast field today (the tail usually comes in closer to 55 minutes at Jesmond Dene). It’s been a very long time since I was last at parkrun!

Hoping to be a bit quicker again next week.

Busy week in my own way

In addition to being really busy finishing my game this week, I’m prepping for my first long run in weeks on Thursday (legs permitting), so it’s going to be a bit of a mad one. Short posts for this week, and I’m looking forward to having a bit of breathing room again next week!

Where did the weekend go?

Time passes in the blink of an eye when I’m busy making a game!

It’s not finished yet. I’m going to have to squeeze in some work on it over the next couple of days.

Still dealing with the aches and pains but through the power of walk breaks and proper warming up I am able to run, mostly without discomfort. Another gentle mile tomorrow!

parkrunday: Jesmond Dene #55

Back to Jesmond Dene this morning as expected. I had planned to run but decided yesterday I would volunteer instead due to my back flare-up. This turned out to be well-timed as the team were in need of barcode scanners this week!

Geth was marshalling so finished a lot earlier and headed home, and I was planning to run home if my spine played ball. After an hour of standing and scanning I had stiffened up a bit, but a good hike up the hill out of the Dene loosened everything up and I was able to have a really good run home. Keeping my fingers crossed that improvement will continue this next week.

Physio Friday

The good news running-wise is that a couple of weeks of extra focus on the strength training has healed my leg issues really well. The bad news is that yesterday morning I woke up with a flare-up of the lower back issue that’s being investigated long-term at the moment. It’s this back issue that causes all my other issues (as it affects my form) so I’m going to have to be patient for another few days until it (hopefully) goes away.

That means another volunteering week at parkrun tomorrow! And a very quiet weekend otherwise – I’ve got a game to finish making.

Phone Box Thursday: Surrey Street, Sheffield

One last phone box from Surrey Street just before the Sheffield half.

It was a bit difficult to get a picture of this one as they’d set up the line of pre-race portaloos next to it and so it was surrounded by queueing runners. I will most definitely be able to get a better picture if I go back on a day that’s not the Sheffield half.

Back to the archives next week unless I stumble across anything new!
