I am aware every Saturday is an ‘actual’ Saturday. What I mean by the post title is that it’s been a Saturday at home, meaning that after I got back from parkrun (still slow and meh, but at least I did it), I was able to put my feet up and mindlessly browse the internet all day. I’ve not had a proper Saturday like that in ages!
I’m going to have a similar day tomorrow in order to refresh for the week ahead.
OOTD: feeling very springlike today! Scarf Accessorize (2003), blouse H&M (2018), leggings Primark (2018), shoes 1st Position (2018).

I did Pendle parkrun a couple of times in 2017, as it’s the local parkrun for Colne and so Geth and I run it whenever we visit his family (and happen to feel like parkrunning that weekend – sometimes we don’t!). I hadn’t realised that it had been so long since I’d last done it.

We were in Colne this weekend, so we decided to give Pendle another go. It’s certainly one of the toughest parkruns I’ve done – it’s a two-lap course, with the first half of the lap being on grass and the second half being a steep freefall sprint downhill followed by a steep slog of a climb back up again. It wouldn’t be so bad if you didn’t have to do it twice.
I felt very slow out there – my current marathon training means that I’m not focusing on pace, and so I’m not nearly as fast as I was when I was getting consistent parkrun PBs last summer, but I still managed to get a course PB by a few seconds, so I’m happy with that.
Since we’re in the area so often, I’ll undoubtedly be back at Pendle again soon.
I’ve had a nice quiet Saturday. Geth and I went and did a very hilly parkrun this morning, then out shopping, and we’ve spent the afternoon watching rugby with the in-laws (well, to be fair, I didn’t actually watch the Scotland match – I put my headphones in and listened to the chart so as not to put my stress levels up!).
A bit of writing, boardgaming, and Indian takeaway tonight – and then a long run tomorrow afternoon, which should set me up nicely for the Inverness half in a couple of weeks’ time!
OOTD: it was warm enough to go out without a coat today! Sunglasses Boots (2013), jumper Ellend (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2019), bag CXL by Christian Lacroix (2018), jeans Vivid (2018), boots Clarks (2016).
Today’s earworm playlist:

And a couple of bonus tracks that Geth was humming earlier:
Georg Friedrich Handel – See The Conquering Hero Carole King – So Far Away
It snowed overnight, which cemented my decision not to leave the house today (I need to go to the hospital for some hearing aid admin, but that can definitely wait till next week). Having looked at the weather forecast, Geth and I decided this morning that parkrun will also be a no-go for us tomorrow (and in fact it’s just been announced that Newcastle parkrun won’t even be on), which means two glorious days of hermit living in a row!
This meant I got lots of editing done today, as well as a good chunk of ukulele practice. Our latest song from class is a bit of a step up technique-wise, so I need to have a good few goes at it this week.
More quality time with my sofa tomorrow.
OOTD: just a selfie today ’cause I’m not going out in that snow! T-shirt Gildan for Infest (2015), mohair blanket unknown brand (gift from Dad 2002).
Today’s earworm playlist:
Haircut 100 – Love Plus One Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan – Especially For You Duran Duran – Hungry Like The Wolf Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus – Nothing Breaks Like A Heart Dire Straits – Romeo And Juliet
I did parkrun for the first time today since the 27th of October, which is a bit alarming. My time is obviously quite a bit slower at the moment from what I was managing last summer, but I should be able to build it up again over the next few months.
A day off for the rest of today, sort of! I’ve been reading about writing rather than doing actual writing. I feel kind of anxious about that, like I should be doing proper work, but I did say I’d try and give myself weekends off this year. I also got some more books logged on Goodreads (I’m trying to do our whole collection at the moment) and caught up with a year’s worth of a webcomic I’d been neglecting. All good semi-productive weekend activities.
Slightly busier day tomorrow!
OOTD: comfy post-parkrun outfit. Jumper unknown brand (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2017), leggings Primark (2018), boots Moda In Pelle (2018).
Today’s earworm playlist:
REM – Imitation Of Life Murray Head – One Night In Bangkok Jess Glynne – Thursday
After a couple of weeks off running since the Yorkshire 10 Mile, I went to parkrun today. It was freezing cold and miserable out on the Town Moor, with the wind blowing sleet into my face and giving me a sleet headache (which I didn’t know was a thing until this morning), and so I wasn’t nearly as fast as I have been recently. That’s a bit disappointing, but hopefully the conditions will be better next week.
I’ve been able to have a nice afternoon catching up with It Takes Two before the main Strictly show tonight, as well as getting on with my writing. Another nice quiet day tomorrow.
OOTD: this is my ‘it’s stupidly cold out there, I’m not leaving the house again’ outfit. Jumper Carlo Colucci (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2017), leggings Primark (2018), boots Carefree (2017).
Today’s earworm playlist:
Bucks Fizz – Piece Of The Action
Wham! – Wham! Rap (Enjoy What You Do)
Duran Duran – Is There Something I Should Know?
Lisa Stansfield – All Around The World
Adam Ant – Puss In Boots
Another Saturday, another sub-30 parkrun – and today I did it without the help of a pacer, which proves that I can do it myself! I’m still having my third and fourth kilometre slump, though, so I really need to have a think about what I can do about that.
We then had a nice pub lunch and a catchup with Kieran and Lisa, so it’s been a good afternoon! Now relaxing with Strictly and other TV.
OOTD: pub lunch outfit. Glasses Emporio Armani (2017), jacket Gap (2010), t-shirt Katharine Hamnett for Help Refugees (2017), skirt Gap (2007), shoes Office (2018).

The 1975 – Too Time Too Time Too Time
They Might Be Giants – Birdhouse In Your Soul
Panic! At The Disco – High Hopes
Example – Won’t Go Quietly
Jennifer Lopez – Louboutins
Another successful parkrun this morning. It was a club takeover this week, so there were pacers – and excitingly, they brought some new pacer t-shirts with them to fill in the minutes that were previously not being paced. This meant there was a 29-minute pacer at parkrun for the very first time, which was very well-timed for me!
I wasn’t sure I’d be able to keep up with 29-minute pace, but I managed to stay on the pacer’s heels the whole way round – which resulted in a 28:42 parkrun! More than a minute off last week’s PB – and incredibly, that’s three PBs in a row! I can’t believe the times I’m getting at the moment. Just hope I can start translating them to longer distances soon!
I had a relaxed Saturday afternoon watching Geth play Final Fantasy IX again, and after enjoying the Strictly live show, we’re now continuing our Marvel catchup with Spider-Man. Looking forward to another quiet day tomorrow.
OOTD: Saturday afternoon warmth. Jumper unknown brand (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2017), jeans Levi (2018), boots Carefree (2017).

Unusually, this morning’s parkrun went exactly as planned! This is because I’d intended all week to have Geth pace me to sub-30, ’cause he’d offered last weekend after I got tantalisingly close again. My cold threw a bit of a spanner in the works in terms of training this week, as it meant I had to skip my midweek long run, but I’m feeling a bit better now and so had no problems keeping up with Geth round the course today. The result was a 29:45 parkrun, a forty-second PB and more importantly my first ever sub-30! This is a real milestone, as it means I finally feel like I’m no longer a slow runner and am instead a solid mid-packer. Just have to get more training in so I can start translating it to longer distances!
We had a relaxing afternoon hibernating with more Final Fantasy IX – which is our now-traditional way to spend autumn and winter Saturday afternoons and made me feel really cosy and autumnal – before enjoying the first of the Strictly live shows. I’m still voting for Danny John-Jules, but most of the contestants are really good this year so it’s going to be an interesting series!
OOTD: sleepy hibernation outfit. Glasses Emporio Armani (2017), hoodie Gildan for Resistanz (2016), Duran Duran classic lineup t-shirt eBay/Fruit of the Loom (2018), leggings Primark (2018), shoes Carvela (2018).
