I had another nice quiet day to get some writing done today. I’ve also listened to a lot of music and got some annoying overdue admin jobs out of the way.
Back to parkrun tomorrow, and then a weekend sorting a few things out in the house.
OOTD: the nice thing about working from home is that I decide what is ‘office-appropriate’! Jacket Gap (2010), dress unknown brand (thrifted from Steff 2016), tights Primark (2017), shoes Office (2018).
Today’s earworm playlist:
Mud – Tiger Feet George Michael – A Different Corner Duran Duran – Violence Of Summer [The Story Mix] Duran Duran – All You Need Is Now Stormzy – Crown
I went to Pendle parkrun again this morning. I didn’t feel that slow but was quite disappointed with my time – will have to get back to less tough parkruns over the next few weeks to try and get faster.
In the afternoon, I went for a nice lunch with the in-laws, and have had a quiet day otherwise.
OOTD: still indoors, but with one of my favourite plants! Glasses Emporio Armani (2017), dress Topshop (2003).
Today’s earworm playlist:
Miley Cyrus – Mother’s Daughter Meat Loaf – Modern Girl The Proclaimers – (I’m Gonna) Burn Your Playhouse Down Sam Cooke – Wonderful World
A nice quiet day of writing today with the chart on in the background while Geth was out shopping with his mum. Boardgaming with the in-laws again this evening!
More of the same tomorrow (plus actually going to parkrun for once).
OOTD: it was dark by the time I remembered to take a picture! Glasses Emporio Armani (2017), t-shirt Lauren Ralph Lauren (modern but bought from Headlock Vintage 2018), jeans Vivid (2018).
Today’s earworm playlist:

Still sleeping late, so unfortunately there was no chance of parkrun this morning. I’m still feeling like I have a lot less ‘day’ due to this sleep issue, so today has been a bit of a whirlwind of trying to catch up with things so that I can attempt another early night.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow morning!
OOTD: comfy Saturday outfit. Hoodie Sonar (2006), Duran Duran classic lineup t-shirt eBay/Fruit of the Loom (2018), leggings Primark (2018), trainers Reebok (2018).
Today’s earworm playlist:

No review post today. UKGE has been fairly full on!
Geth and I got up early this morning to do our Birmingham parkrun of choice, Perry Hall, which I logged last year. It’s still as lovely and friendly as ever, although it is getting bigger year by year. I was nearly two minutes slower than my previous time at Perry Hall, but I did have new running shoes to break in this morning! It was also a nice choice to celebrate my runniversary – four years today since I started running.
Once we were back and showered, we headed into the main hall in the NEC to do the bulk of our shopping for the weekend. Geth was a bit disgruntled by the experience, as it’s marginally busier on the Saturday and all of the good bargains have gone – we usually do all the shopping on the Friday, but of course he was Keyforging yesterday so we had to reschedule slightly this year.
Geth has decided to brave the very busy Bring & Buy section, and we’ve got tickets for a ‘Star Trek vs. Star Wars’ show later this afternoon. Still lots to do here!
OOTD: will try and manage an outdoor picture tomorrow. Glasses Emporio Armani (2017), jacket unknown brand (estimated vintage 1990s, bought at vintage shop 2003), t-shirt Bella for Scary Go Round (2005), lanyard UK Games Expo (2019), skirt Calvin Klein Jeans (2004), trainers Reebok (2017).
Today’s earworm playlist:
Calvin Harris and Rag ‘N’ Bone Man – Giant Journey – Don’t Stop Believin’ Gunship – When You Grow Up Your Heart Dies Gunship – Rise The Midnight Girl
I skipped parkrun this morning as I’ve got a few aches and pains that are playing up (and besides, Geth was off to a boardgaming event so he wasn’t going to parkrun anyway). As such, I’ve had a very nice Saturday of not being out in the rain. I’ve listened to a lot of music, haphazardly played some of my own on my ukulele, and got a bit of writing done.
I’m really enjoying this quiet weekend. More of the same tomorrow!
OOTD: a good day for lounging around in jeans and Dad’s old university t-shirt. T-shirt Ron Holland for Cambridge University (vintage 1970s, thrifted from Dad 2012), jeans H&M (thrifted from Steff 2016), trainers Reebok (2017).
Today’s earworm playlist:
Jonas Brothers – Sucker The Proclaimers – Letter From America Mark Ronson and Lykke Li – Late Night Feelings Thought Beings – Hazy The Midnight – America
No review post today as I’m having a quiet day before a race tomorrow!
Geth and I volunteered at parkrun this morning, then went for our traditional post-parkrun-volunteering-on-a-race-weekend breakfast in town. Once back home, I spent the afternoon getting some writing done.
Just a quiet evening now before the race tomorrow! I’m doing the 10K (which probably won’t break any records given that I’m still recovering from London) and Geth is doing the half marathon. I will let you know tomorrow how it all goes!
OOTD: at this rate I’m going to be wearing winter jumpers into June! Jumper Faber (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2018), jeans H&M (thrifted from Steff 2016), trainers Reebok (2013).
Today’s earworm playlist:

It’s a weekend without a long run in it! I’ve not had one of those since…early January? It is quite nice to have my weekends back again!
I did do parkrun this morning, though. I felt free to bomb it round without worrying about conserving energy for long runs, so I managed a respectable sub-33. Four minutes slower than my PB from last summer, but also four minutes faster than the shakeout parkrun I did at Highbury Fields last weekend!
I was tempted to head into town for Free Comic Book Day, but in the end I decided I’d rather hibernate (it’s cold for May – we had a bit of hail at parkrun this morning). As such, I’ve spent the rest of the day catching up with admin and writing, which is going to be a bit of a theme this weekend!
Geth and I first ran Highbury Fields parkrun in November 2017, as I have previously mentioned during a whole series of Phone Box Thursdays (there are a lot of phone boxes along the walk from the Thistle City Barbican – our favoured London hotel – to Highbury Fields).
Me with a phone box (logged here) the first time we ran Highbury Fields in November 2017.
It’s not flat, but the inclines aren’t too troubling if you’re used to hills. It’s a five-lap course, and because I’m used to much longer distances after four months of marathon training, the laps felt really short when I ran it for the second time this last Saturday.
It’s also a really lovely park. One of the many novels I’m working on is set in Islington, and I have a lot of scenes with characters going for walks around the pathways!
There are other London parkruns I’d like to do at some point, but because Geth and I always stay at the Thistle (and so Islington is kind of our base whenever we’re in town), I think Highbury Fields will always be our default.
I’ve been planning and preparing for this for so long that I can’t believe it’s actually time to go do this thing. I’ve had a pretty-much-perfect final day of preparation though! I went for a shakeout run at Highbury Fields parkrun this morning – I was in two minds about doing it, because I didn’t want to sap my energy for tomorrow, but I’m really glad I did because I had a great run and it’s given me a lot of confidence for the race. It also made me aware that my watch had randomly switched itself back from miles to kilometres, so I’ve been able to fix that. I would not have been best pleased if I’d only discovered that after I set off tomorrow.
The rest of the day has been spent eating and making arrangements for eating. Geth and I discovered a nice new breakfast place where I was able to have pancakes, and we booked a table at an Italian restaurant so that I could eat all the pasta (and all the garlic pizza bread, and all the mozzarella salad, and all the ice cream…) this evening.
People have been unbelievably generous and my RNLI fundraising total on my JustGiving page is racking up nicely! Thank you so much if you’ve donated – I really, really appreciate it.
I’m very nervous, but I’ve got my plan, and I know I can do this. See you on the other side!
OOTD: with one of my favourite red phone boxes, this awesome K2 in Islington (logged here)! Glasses Emporio Armani (2017), jacket Mercy (2007/2009, due to a complicated story that I still don’t have time to tell you at the moment), t-shirt Punk Masters (2018), bag CXL by Christian Lacroix (2018), jeans Vivid (2018), trainers Reebok (2017).
