Back to work today, though still with chocolate for lunch. Shaping up to be a good week – still got that semi-holiday feeling.
I’m still buzzing after being able to do my slightly longer run on Sunday, and today I did a short run without any background aches and pains at all (not even the usual ones caused by chronic stuff). Feeling good and hoping for some more improvement at the physio later this week.
It’s Geth’s and my ninth wedding anniversary today! We are looking forward to a nice evening with some takeaway pizza. We used to go out for anniversary meals but home is the greatest place for both of us these days so takeaway is the preferred option.
It’s been a day job work day otherwise. I’m doing a lot of work for my civil engineering clients at the moment, which means I’m reading a lot about the scientific properties of concrete. Proofreading is most certainly a career where you spend your life learning about things you never expected to know.
No running vlog this week due to the Easter holiday / the fact that the game jam deadline is in two days’ time. Double vlog update next week!
Geth and I have had a great weekend eating chocolate, playing videogames (in Geth’s case) and making them (in mine). Feeling a bit out of sorts, though, so vegetables will happen soon.
…as I feel ready to move onto some slightly longer sessions over the weekend.
I’m in a real Friday mood this evening. I’ve had a really good first week working on my NaNoWriMo and am steadily hitting my wordcount every day. I also did a good chunk of editing work for Geth’s latest paper today, as he’s submitting it this evening, and we are having takeaway pizza to celebrate!
I’m really enjoying getting some videogaming time in as well, and am looking forward to starting the planning for my next game project this weekend. All of this extra time is brought to you by my almost-complete avoidance of social media and news websites over the last few days because I don’t want to hear anything about the US election until all the states have called. It’s been a very nice few days as a result and has made me think that I really need to limit social media, forums and the like on a permanent basis!
I’ll be posting vlog links as usual over the weekend and will be back to update on Monday. Hopefully with tales of more interesting running sessions and a finished plan for another text adventure!
Today’s earworm playlist:
Cast of The Lion King – ‘Circle Of Life’ Barenaked Ladies – ‘If I Had A Million Dollars’ Ed Sheeran – ‘The A Team’ Wham! – ‘Club Tropicana’ Florence & The Machine – ‘Shake It Out’
…as it was a rest day on my plan. After three days in a row of slightly longer runs it really did feel like a rest day too! Longer runs again over the next two days.
I’m excited about the weekend as I’m going to be wearing and taking pictures of all the old clothes I’m selling. Geth is helping me with the photography process so I think we’ll both need to try and avoid the ‘ohhh… this one looks nice, maybe I/you should keep it’ justifications. All these clothes have been sitting ignored in the garage for two years for a reason!
I’ll post running vlogs over the weekend as usual, and will be back with a full update on Monday.
Today’s earworm playlist:
Mark Knopfler – ‘Local Hero’ Carl Orff – ‘Gassenhauer’ Queen – ‘One Vision’ The Carpenters – ‘We’ve Only Just Begun’ Middle Of The Road – ‘Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep’ They Might Be Giants – ‘Istanbul (Not Constantinople)’
…because I had chocolate eggs waiting for me for breakfast!
I’m having a very relaxed Easter Sunday. I released the final version of Goblin Decathlon (with added graphics) this morning, and am looking forward to moving onto my next game. Today, though, is all about chilling out – Geth is starting a new playthrough of the original version of Final Fantasy VII, as we won’t be getting the new remake until we decide on a next-generation console. I’m looking forward to having the FFVII music in the room – it’s probably one of my favourite game atmospheres of all time.
Wishing you all a peaceful day.
Today’s earworm playlist:
Takeru Kanazaki – ‘Life at Garreg Mach Monastery’ Tones & I – ‘Dance Monkey’
…and then I headed to my second counselling session. I think it’s probably good to be able to talk about things, but I still feel a bit unfocused in the sessions. I am finding that some things are a bit clearer, but I need to spend more time writing everything down in order to process that.
Then it was another afternoon doing admin and house stuff. Looking forward to more running adventures this weekend!
Today’s earworm playlist:
Timecop1983 and The Midnight – ‘Static’ The Midnight – ‘Lost Boy’ Sacre – ‘The London Marathon’ Carl Orff – ‘Gassenhauer’
Nine miles on the long run this morning – felt really good and steady. Going a bit further every week! The energy gel I had at about six miles in tasted pretty rank, but it seemed to do the job as I wasn’t flagging towards the end of the run like I sometimes am.
Have spent the afternoon resting (well, apart from the half hour I spent doing a preliminary sort-out of the garage) and getting on with some admin. Back to work (and a much shorter run that may turn out to be a walk/run if my legs are as sore as they were last Monday) tomorrow.
Today’s earworm playlist:
Hiroki Morishita – ‘Duty’ Nena – ’99 Red Balloons’ Vangelis – ‘Chariots Of Fire’ Blur – ‘Parklife’
I’ve spent the day happily esconsced in my writing again. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I’m considering just pulling a ‘weigh and go’ at Slimming World tomorrow so that I can get home earlier and squeeze an extra bit of writing in. I do have day job work to do tomorrow as well, so we’ll see.
My characters are currently in 1979, so I’m constantly having to break off from writing and Google stuff like ‘when did SCART connectors become standard on TVs?’ and ‘did Quality Street tins have cellophane seals around the lid in the ’70s?’ An answer to the latter question is currently eluding me. I have watched this 1978 Woolworths Christmas advert many times today, trying to work out from the shot of the Quality Street tin (at 1:00 in the video) whether it has a cellophane seal or not:
I can’t be accused of not doing my research.
Looking forward to finishing up for Easter tomorrow.
Today’s earworm playlist:
Duran Duran – Union Of The Snake Duran Duran – Burning The Ground Duran Duran – The Chauffeur Ta Mara & The Seen – Affection Bowling For Soup – 1985 Stephen ‘Tin Tin’ Duffy – Kiss Me Duran Duran – Secret Oktober Cheryl – Fight For This Love Mabel – Don’t Call Me Up
Geth’s mum Anne got me a pack of Cadbury’s Roses this year. They were ostensibly for my birthday (which is tomorrow), but Geth and I ate them over Christmas, ’cause you don’t want to be still eating that stuff into January.
Here’s what I thought of each one:
Hazel in Caramel
I’m not really a big hazelnut fan, and I prefer chewy caramel to runny caramel, so I could probably do without this one. Three out of five.
Hazel Whirl
See above re. the hazelnuts, though I marginally prefer the solid chocolate casing to the caramel. Three out of five.
Caramel Bite
Two different types of chewy caramel in this one – lovely texture. Bonus Geth review: he says it’s not his thing, which means all the more for me next time we have a box of Roses. Four out of five.
Golden Barrel
It’s runny caramel, so not my favourite, but still very tasty. Bonus Geth review: again, this one’s not his thing, so I’ll be eating these ones in future. Four out of five.
Strawberry Dream
My least favourite, ’cause I’m really not keen on fruit cream chocolates. Bonus Geth review: he thinks it’s lovely and sweet and tangy. They can all go to him in future. One out of five.
Signature Truffle
Absolutely divine-tasting – but if you eat it after scoffing about ten others, it tastes a bit too rich! Best to be enjoyed on its own. Bonus Geth review: he says it’s nice but not as nice as the Strawberry Dream. Five out of five.
Coffee Escape
This one’s all right but a bit too sharp for me. Two out of five.
Cadbury Dairy Milk Chunk
A bit uninspiring for me, ’cause I’m not the hugest fan of plain Dairy Milk. Bonus Geth review: he absolutely loves this one, as it’s thick chunky milk chocolate. Another one that he can have in future. Three out of five.
Tangy Orange Creme
Again, I’m not keen on fruit cream chocolates, though it’s a little tastier than the Strawberry Dream. One out of five.
Country Fudge
Delicious chewy fudge – just the right texture. Five out of five.
Caramel
Smooth chewy caramel – again, this is just the right texture, and probably my favourite flavour in the box! Five out of five.
And to round up, this year’s best slightly grumpy celebrity tweet on the subject from T’Pau’s Carol Decker:
