A regular day

A nice normal day at home, including properly starting my GNR training! I’m doing three targeted sessions a week in this block, in addition to my rest day streak savers. All the runs on the plan have particular average paces I need to hit, which is a new thing for me – usually I just follow one that says ‘slow’, ‘easy’, ‘tempo’ etc. and go by feel. It went okay today so I’m quite excited about it. I also got back to my full-length strength training session now that I’m back home with all my equipment.

After work I was then able to get a good chunk of game-tweaking done. There’s only nine days until the deadline and I’ve still got a lot of testers’ transcripts to go through, so I’m really glad this week is fairly quiet and I can get on with it.

An even quieter day tomorrow 🙂

Dashing about!

Quick one today as I’ve been busy. Long drive, running in a different place yet again and lots of game testing feedback coming in. Excited to get some time to work on that later this week!

It’s an out-of-routine week as we’re travelling but there should be chance for a bit of downtime as well.

Trying to weekend

I’ve not been good at weekending recently. I don’t do day job work on the weekends (unless a client has an urgent job for which they’re willing to pay express rate), but over the last couple of months I have been working on my games at weekends, which means I’ve not really been giving my brain a break. I hit all my game-making goals this week and am well on target, so I’m taking a break from that over the weekend. I’m quite looking forward to some downtime.

I’m in two minds about parkrunning tomorrow. Geth is having a week off from volunteering so if I did go, it’d just be me. It might be nice to have a Saturday lie-in for once. I’ll make a decision about that tomorrow morning.

Then I’ve got an actual concert in the evening! First of the year (but not the last as I have several originally-2020 gigs coming up this summer). Again, it’s just me as Geth chose not to come to this one, but I’m looking forward to it – it’ll be great to tick Paul Young off my Band Aid Baby bucket list (which I still need to update following a Duran Duran gig last year) and I enjoyed Go West last time I saw them.

Sunday will be really quiet and thus brilliant in a different way.

Trying not to think about it

I’ll be attempting an 18-mile run (with walk breaks) tomorrow, as I know I need to do 18 miles in training in order to be able to do the mental part of the marathon. It worked last time and I think it will work this time. With no game crunch to distract me this week, though, I’m getting a little bit nervous about the run. Just need to do what I did last week and hopefully it’ll be fine.

Already looking forward to the quietest of quiet weekends.

Sunday dozing

I’ve been on the sofa making my game most of today. Geth was out doing the long run route from my 2021 marathon training block this morning, and I have to say I feel pretty envious – I really want to be back out there, and my legs do feel like they’re improving. I don’t want to risk anything until I’ve seen the physio, though. Four more days.

I’m really appreciating a bit of quiet at the moment. I’m sleeping better and feel very settled in what I’m doing. Just need to get the aches and pains sorted and everything will be golden 🙂

Friday off

I was able to have a proper day off today and get into some game creation. There are a few competitions and jams this spring into which I am interested in putting my text adventures 🙂 It’s nice to be back doing something creative again.

Looking forward to playing some videogames as well this weekend. I feel like I’ve been saying that for ages!

Suddenly on top of things!

I’ve spent pretty much the last month chasing my tail, so I was a bit surprised to realise upon finishing work today that the rest of the week (whisper it) doesn’t have much booked in yet. I really hope it stays that way as it’d be great to be able to crack on with my remaining course modules!

I’ve been fantasising a bit about what I’m going to do in March once the course is over. So far it includes super exciting things such as:

  • Get a haircut
  • Play some videogames, maybe? If I have the energy
  • Try to avoid starting any new creative projects and probably fail
  • Find some way of conducting a mildly celebratory eating occasion that doesn’t blow my weight loss efforts

On the whole, though, I’m not planning much. Just having a bit of time to myself again will be enough.

We muddled through somehow!

It’s been another challenging week in our house – between our heavy loads of work/studying/running, the saga of my laptop replacement, dealing with Zombie Eye IV, and a bit of a shock yesterday when we received a letter telling us the company scheduled to do our front garden this year had gone bankrupt (resulting in us needing to find some way of getting our rather large deposit back), it has been extremely eventful and it feels like last weekend was months ago!

Other than a bit of admin relating to some of the above – and finding a parkrun near us that will actually be going ahead tomorrow morning – I expect I will be spending a lot of the weekend staring into space on the sofa. If I do find some energy from somewhere, I may try and get some of my less-taxing course modules done so that I’m not panicking so much at the end of February.

Tonight, though, I most definitely need a couple of hours of Not Doing Anything At AllTM!

Juggling!

It’s been a bit of a struggle to balance work and studying ever since I started the TechUP course back in October, but this coming week is really going to be a challenge. Lots of clients with deadlines, and lots of stuff going on with the course. It’s also week four of the marathon training plan… all of this will be a real balancing act!

Marathon training is still going well with no major aches or pains – I think the mileage buildup must be going at the right pace. Podcasts are really helping still.

I’ve enjoyed the course but I’m really looking forward to having some downtime in March, especially with the long training runs getting longer.

The same is good

In the quiet part of the year, every weekend is the same, and that’s the way I like it.

I was going to go further afield for parkrun tomorrow morning, but I don’t have the energy at the moment as there are a lot of other things going on (January is quiet social-wise but not work-wise or study-wise… certainly not this year anyway!). Just the usual will be fine.

After that I’ll be on my sofa all weekend. Probably not fully awake. It’s been another long week.
