This is a booze alternative I tried when Geth and I accidentally found ourselves in a pub last summer (it was genuinely an accident as we only stopped off to buy some drinks from their brewery, but they showed us down to a secret beer garden instead). I took the opportunity to sample some flavours of Fentimans that I hadn’t tried before!
Unfortunately I really didn’t like this one as I wasn’t keen on the flavours. Nothing to do with Fentimans as I’ve loved lots of their other drinks – I think I just don’t like dandelion and burdock!
I’m finally catching up with my booze alternative reviews again, as I’ve not done any in a while. Fentimans Ginger Ale was one I tried in November 2019.
I like the ginger beer from the same brand, but as I said in my previous review I find it quite hard to drink because it’s very spicy and makes me cough. The ginger ale is much easier to drink, and it’s got a lovely sweet taste, so if given the choice between the two I would probably have the ale.
Strange to go back through my pictures and find one taken in a bar. A different world!
Another flavour of Fentimans that I found on the supermarket shelf!
I’ve never really liked cherry cola that much, I have to say. Even if it is the drink of choice for the brand-censored ‘Lola’ in the classic Kinks song (one of the reasons I prefer the uncensored original). However, I’ve got my usual ‘collect the set’ mentality when it comes to Fentimans, so I thought I’d give it a go.
And the verdict is…nope, still don’t like cherry cola. Can’t win ’em all!
There are what seems like hundreds of different flavours of Fentimans, and I am on a mission to try them all. I picked Rose Lemonade off the supermarket shelf ahead of any of the others, though, because it was pink. So very pink and pretty.
It tastes like Turkish Delight in a bottle. OMG.
I already know this is going to be a real favourite when I’ve settled down with my drinks selection and stopped feeling the need to try something new every weekend!
I did my first sober restaurant visit on Sunday night. San Lorenzo in Newcastle was a new find for me and Geth (as I’ve mentioned a coupleof times this week), and I picked it because they had an online menu so I could see what the non-alcoholic options were. They had loads – Becks Blue and San Pellegrino and Fentimans – and if it were a pub I could honestly have been there all day trying all the different options, which is a very good sign. I decided on a Fentimans Ginger Beer, and as it turned out, I only needed the one.
Fentimans Ginger Beer is extremely tasty. The ginger in it is very spicy, so I actually found myself choking on it a few times, but to be honest that’s probably for the best – I’d drink it a lot quicker otherwise, and this stuff is not as syn-free as Diet Coke!
I also found it didn’t set off my booze compulsions like the San Miguel 0.0 I’d tried a couple of nights previously – as I said, I only had the one, and didn’t feel the pull to have another – so this stuff’s probably safer for me to drink than non-alcoholic beer. It tastes nicer anyway!
