Back home in Newcastle with a ton of chocolate to eat over the next few days!
A few quiet weeks knuckling down now. I’ve got a couple of games to finish making and a marathon to finish training for (gently).
…and it’s the evening and I’ve still not cracked my eggs open because I’m stuffed from Easter lunch. I reckon the chocolate will last me all week.
I was able to do a six-mile gentle run (with a few walk breaks) this morning, which I am thrilled about. It was a really lovely morning and a really lovely run. I’m planning the next long run for the Thursday after next, so will stay mostly rested until then.
After I did the ’80s virtual 10k for the Roy Castle Foundation, I continued to follow them with interest to see what they were going to organise next. When it was announced that there would be a virtual Easter challenge this year, I signed up straight away! Nothing like a 10k run to build up an appetite for a day of Easter egg eating…
For the run itself, I semi-finalised a 10k route I’ve been working on that doesn’t feel anywhere near as long as a 10k for some reason. I had to do a quick out-and-back at the end because the route was short. I’ve got some ideas for fixing that next time!
Although the event took place on Easter weekend, the medal only arrived this week because there were some postal delays mainly caused by a Royal Mail backlog. It was very welcome when it arrived though! Never too late for an Easter egg…
I spent all of the Easter weekend working on last-minute polish stuff for my new Adventuron game. It was a really fun project, but these things always get a bit manic just before release and so I now most definitely need a quiet weekend of playing games instead of making them! As such, for the next couple of days I’m going to be curling up on the sofa and playing all the other games that were made for the jam (along with a bit of Bravely Default II, which I’ve been neglecting for the last couple of weeks!).
I submitted the game on Wednesday and have just been catching up with day job work since then. I’m looking forward to a more normal week again next week and am excited about getting out for my nice long walks again 🙂

*Yes, the tunes that I composed on BeepBox for my new game have spent a lot of time stuck in my head the last few days. It’s good that they’re catchy… right?
No running vlog this week due to the Easter holiday / the fact that the game jam deadline is in two days’ time. Double vlog update next week!
Geth and I have had a great weekend eating chocolate, playing videogames (in Geth’s case) and making them (in mine). Feeling a bit out of sorts, though, so vegetables will happen soon.
It’s been a busy week getting everything done in the run-up to Easter weekend. At the start of the week I was frantically finishing my jam game, but we’ve got a week’s extension for that so I’ve been able to take my time a bit more – I’m looking forward to settling down and getting it finished over the weekend. I also had a lot of day job work that I needed to get cleared before the holiday, which has been pretty much full-time this week.
Still, I got everything done yesterday, and today I’ve been enjoying the time spent drawing graphics!
Running and walking has suffered a bit this week, as I didn’t have as much time for it as I usually do. I’m looking forward to getting out exploring on longer routes over the weekend though.
I hope everyone has a great weekend, whether or not you are celebrating Easter or anything else 🙂

Just a mile today…
…because I had chocolate eggs waiting for me for breakfast!
I’m having a very relaxed Easter Sunday. I released the final version of Goblin Decathlon (with added graphics) this morning, and am looking forward to moving onto my next game. Today, though, is all about chilling out – Geth is starting a new playthrough of the original version of Final Fantasy VII, as we won’t be getting the new remake until we decide on a next-generation console. I’m looking forward to having the FFVII music in the room – it’s probably one of my favourite game atmospheres of all time.
Wishing you all a peaceful day.
Today’s earworm playlist:
Takeru Kanazaki – ‘Life at Garreg Mach Monastery’
Tones & I – ‘Dance Monkey’
I did my first pace run in two weeks this morning…
…and I didn’t do too badly considering I’ve been taking it easy for a fortnight! I am missing parkrun on Saturdays, but I’m hopeful that I will be able to maintain my speed during this lockdown.
I’ve now got an afternoon and evening of game creation and game playing to look forward to. I feel fairly lucky that I’m an introvert and a homebody anyway, so I can keep myself quite content during this awful world situation, but I know it must be pretty unbearable for people who thrive on social contact.
Tomorrow will be similar, with added Easter chocolate 🙂
Today’s earworm playlist:
