parkrunday: Jesmond Dene #72

Monthly volunteering slot this morning. Ran home after 🙂

Volunteering at parkrun

We were at our favourite marshal point either side of the bridge – it’s early in the course so it’s a good point for getting away earlier! A few tourists commenting on how tough the course was as they passed me – didn’t have the heart to tell them about the huge hill coming up…

Running again next week, but won’t be chasing a fast time until after the GNR.

Weekend mode

Started today off with a lovely run with the social group, which is becoming something I’m really enjoying on Friday mornings. Volunteering at parkrun tomorrow so will do a very gentle run back, and then hopefully I’ll be able to manage my twelve miles on Sunday!

I’ve been making a bit more time for reading and gaming this week, which has been so beneficial (I’m usually non-stop with day job stuff, writing, running and other ‘busy’ pursuits). Going to try and continue this.

Low-effort rain

The promised storm has not arrived. There has been some drizzle to cool things down but it’s still slightly muggy. Running is getting a lot more comfortable.

A large chunk of today has been spent being a cat bed for next door’s cat, who does not appear to be impressed by the drizzle.

Waiting for the storm

The weatherfolks have been predicting thunderstorms here this evening and I am excited. I’m done with the recent humid weather and looking forward to a few cooler days (especially now that it’s the sharp end of GNR training and I’m trying to get some longer runs in without having to tap out like I did yesterday).

Lots to do workwise this week as well so it’d be good not to be distracted by muggy weather.

That ‘nope’ moment

Went out running with the social group for today’s long run. I didn’t make it the whole way as I was getting very fatigued around seven miles in – the kind of fatigued that is your body saying ‘nope’. I’d just done a bit too much this weekend. As such, I left the run early and went home on the metro. Hopefully next week’s long run will be more successful.

A few days of taking it easy now.

parkrunday: Town Moor #547

Back on the Moor today! No photo as I forgot to take one and I’m blogging too early to wait for the official ones.

I tried for sub-30 with Geth pacing again. Unfortunately it just wasn’t happening this morning – the magic shoes struggle a bit on the gravel of the moor paths – but I did manage 31:39, staying consistent with recent improvements. I’m going to keep trying, and if I’ve not managed it by the time of the GNR then I’ll give it a bit more focus in the autumn.

It’s still hot

We’re well into August and I’m usually a bit sick of summer by now, but this year I’m quite enjoying it, probably because the weather has been nice. It’s been a little too hot when out running but it’s really lovely to sit in the house with the windows open and the sunshine coming in.

Plans for the weekend are (a) running and (b) lounging around.
