Ready for the weekend…

…though it won’t be that different from the last few weekdays, I imagine, seeing as I’m so caught up in my text adventure project at the moment!

There will be quite a bit of running (and running TV), though. Currently catching up with the Great Scottish Run and the Cardiff Half Marathon on iPlayer, then will be getting up super early tomorrow to watch the start of Eliud Kipchoge’s 1:59:59 marathon attempt. Geth and I will then be nipping out to run a brand new parkrun, and then back home to catch up with the rest of the Kipchoge event (I expect we’ll have been spoilered for the result by the time we leave parkrun, but it’ll still be great to watch!). I’m also planning a slightly longer amble on Sunday, as I’m trying to do three runs a week at the moment.

I think it was the right decision not to run any races post-GNR this autumn, as I’m finding I’m still really excited about my running right now (as opposed to crawling away screaming at the end of the season and taking two months off like I have done the last couple of years!).

There will also be a bit of videogaming, I hope, if I can drag myself away from making my own one.

parkrun barcode
Not an OOTD: brand new parkrun barcode printed out ready for tomorrow – my old one is getting a bit worn and hasn’t been scanning properly for the last few weeks!

Today’s earworm playlist:

Jason Paige – Pokémon Theme (Gotta Catch ‘Em All)
Bobby Darin – Beyond The Sea
Duran Duran – Liberty
John Parr – St. Elmo’s Fire (Man In Motion)

Quiet Sundays are the best

I’ve settled into a nice routine the last few weekends, and today’s quiet Sunday gave me the opportunity to get another 4,000 words done on my NaNo novel, taking me up to 16,000.  I feel as if I could keep this going and end up with 120,000 words this month if I had to, but I don’t think I need quite as many words as that to finish the novel!  We’ll see.

Other than that, I had my usual nice Sunday TV evening of Doctor Who and the Strictly results, and we’ve now got triathlon TV on in the background.

Kicking off another running weekend!

It’s a race weekend for me and Geth, so we volunteered at parkrun this morning in the pouring rain.  According to the weather forecast, we’re going to be running the race in the pouring rain tomorrow, so I suppose it was good practice.

We had a nice meal out with lots of pasta in order to carb-load for tomorrow, enjoyed the main Strictly show, and are now watching triathlon TV to get us in the mood for the race!

Autumn TV is the best

After a nice weekend in Edinburgh, Geth and I headed back to Newcastle today – with a very comfortable and efficient train journey for once!  We’ve spent the evening watching Doctor Who, the Strictly results, and the coverage of this morning’s Cardiff Half Marathon.  Nice to be back home and relaxing.  Looking forward to another productive week!

Routine is nice

A nice regular Thursday today.  Slimming World this morning (two pounds off to take me back into target range, hopefully for good now the summer is over!), a good bit of admin catchup in the afternoon, then Pilates class this evening.

Now watching triathlon on the TV again!

OOTD 27th September 2018
OOTD: not doing too well at teaching Geth to focus this camera – may invest in a tripod instead. Hoodie Uneek Classic for Mesh (2016), t-shirt Puma for Great Winter Run (2016), leggings Primark (2018), trainers Reebok (2018).

Today’s earworm playlist:

New machinery!

Another busy day of admin, but then the thing arrived that I was talking about yesterday:

Tumble dryer
Our new tumble dryer! (I also finally got my new camera set up, as you can probably tell!)

I am so glad that we got this.  It’s an early Christmas present from Geth’s dad’s side of the family, and it’s one of the things that will hopefully sort out the issue with dampness we have upstairs.  Up until now, when it’s not summer (or when it is but it’s raining), we’ve had to line-dry clothes upstairs, which has not helped the problem.  The tumble dryer means we don’t have to do that anymore.

It also gives us a bit more space upstairs, seeing as I gleefully dismantled the drying racks this afternoon!

Between that and the dehumidifier that Geth bought a few weeks ago, hopefully we won’t have to put up with mould growing on the ceilings from now on.

I got some more work done in the evening, with triathlon TV and Strictly: It Takes Two as background.  Nice and relaxed!

OOTD 25th September 2018
OOTD: I’m still teaching Geth how to use the focus, but it’s so much better than my phone! Jumper Carlo Colucci (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2017), jeans H&M (thrifted from Steff 2016), boots Carefree (2017).

Today’s earworm playlist:

Paul Young – Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home)
Paul Young – Come Back And Stay
Duran Duran – Tel Aviv [AIR Studio Version]
StreetPass Mii Plaza – Main Theme
Florence & The Machine – Shake It Out
Icona Pop and Charli XCX – I Love It
Elton John – Something About The Way You Look Tonight
Macklemore and Skylar Grey – Glorious
Axwell & Ingrosso – More Than You Know
Steps – Deeper Shade Of Blue
Duran Duran – Careless Memories

Waiting for that full row to disappear

As hoped, I managed to get a good day’s worth of house stuff done today.  This mainly involved unpacking boxes and Tetrising the contents about, so it sort of feels like I’ve not made much headway, but I know I have really.  It will be more apparent after I unpack the other half of the boxes on Monday (assuming I don’t have work) and am able to start getting some things into their finalised places.  Exciting!

Geth is watching triathlon TV at the moment to mark the start of Great North Weekend, which will take up the rest of our time until Sunday evening.  I’ve got a bit of work and a bit of admin to get on with, before an early night in preparation for parkrun volunteering tomorrow.

Pasta and pesto
I’m still eating ALL THE PASTA. One more day of carb-loading to go!

Really looking forward to the CityGames tomorrow!

OOTD 7th September 2018
OOTD: ghostface selfie featuring comfy house-sorting outfit. Jumper Faber (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2018), jeans Vivid (2018).

Today’s earworm playlist:

Rod Stewart – Baby Jane
The Wanted – Walks Like Rihanna
Nik Kershaw – I Won’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me
Brother Beyond – The Harder I Try
Charli XCX – Boys
George Michael – Careless Whisper
Eurythmics – Here Comes The Rain Again
Howard Jones – New Song

Pre-race evenings in

One thing I’m really looking forward to about race season starting again is pre-race evenings in (the first one being tonight, given that the Sunderland 10k is tomorrow!).  Because we have to run optimally the next day, we can’t do anything fun or weekend-y like drinking alcohol or staying up late or leaving the house, so instead we watch ‘running TV’ (i.e. road running, athletics and triathlon events I’ve recorded off the TV) and running films (Run Fatboy Run is Geth’s favourite, Chariots Of Fire is mine).  Then we get a nice early night.  Rock ‘n’ roll!

Then the following evening, after the race, we do it all again, except this time with booze and takeaway.  I think I’m looking forward to that more, to be honest.

Tonight’s viewing will be the Great Birmingham 10k that I recorded off the TV last Sunday, followed by Chariots of Fire (we’ve watched Run Fatboy Run the last few times, so it’s time for a change).  I should probably see about procuring some different running films, though, as we’ve got a lot of races coming up this year!
