It’s been a fairly relaxed day – I got a bit more editing done on my book draft (so nearly there now!) and have been looking into online resources to help with sobriety and mental health (I mentioned this in my two-month sobriety update yesterday).
Now looking forward to a chilled-out evening of reading before the usual hectic Thursday tomorrow.
OOTD: sunshine and showers today! Scarf MyScarf (2019), hoodie Sonar (2006), t-shirt H&M (2018), skirt Dark Star (2004), tights unknown brand (2010), shoes Office (2018).
Today’s earworm playlist:
Ava Max – Sweet But Psycho Duran Duran – Hold Back The Rain The Power Station – Communication Duran Duran – A View To A Kill
Back to the editing today – mostly for clients, but I’ve also had time to do a bit of my own work as well. I really can see the end in sight now for this book draft!
I also got our DVD shelves tidied up and have identified a few to sell through Music Magpie, which is a fairly minor house job but still the first house job I’ve managed to get done in months and months.
Looking forward to getting some reading done this evening.
OOTD: blue Monday. Scarf unknown brand (vintage 1970s/1980s, thrifted from Anne out of Granny Bessie’s collection 1995), top Gildan for Infest (2015), skirt Primark (2018), tights Primark (2017), shoes Zara (2018).
Today’s earworm playlist:
The Bangles – Hazy Shade Of Winter Duran Duran – Girls On Film Billie Eilish – Bury A Friend Calvin Harris and Rag ‘N’ Bone Man – Giant Kaiser Chiefs – Oh My God Mabel – Don’t Call Me Up Duran Duran – A View To A Kill Duran Duran – Burning The Ground The Prodigy – Out Of Space* Iggy Pop – Lust For Life
*RIP Keith Flint. Really sad about this one! I was lucky enough to see the Prodigy twice, once at T in the Park 2005 and once at M’era Luna 2009. Amazing shows – the way they always got the crowd involved was incredible.
No review post today as I’m having a rare lazy Sunday!
I did my long run first thing this morning (meaning that for my pre-2015 self, today would not remotely have counted as a lazy Sunday, but in the midst of marathon training and with the treadmill it feels like a fairly automatic Sunday thing at the moment!). I then spent the afternoon reading.
Some catchup TV this evening to round off the day. Geth and I have been enjoying the BBC’s Back In Time For School, and we’ve just got to the episode about the ’90s – which is obviously a bit weird for us seeing as that’s when we were at school and it’s now being treated as something ‘historical’!
Back to work tomorrow.
OOTD: fun outfit for round the house! Scarf Matalan (2016), top Pineapple (2004), trousers Bat Attack (2009), socks Lulu Guinness (2019), shoes Primark (2017).
Today’s earworm playlist:
Duran Duran – New Moon On Monday Vengaboys – Boom Boom Boom Boom U2 – Sunday Bloody Sunday
I’ve been finding on Thursdays recently that after doing my early morning speed run and walking back and forth to Slimming World group, I get really tired and don’t have much energy for doing stuff (probably ’cause I don’t eat or drink till after weigh-in, but that’s sort of a necessary evil!). I think I’m going to stop scheduling work for Thursday afternoons and move it to the weekend instead.
I was feeling especially dozy this afternoon after a fairly hectic twenty-four hours. Following a day of editing, yesterday evening I went to ukulele class, then to a poetry evening for a few hours (I’m still looking to get into performance poetry and so I’m in the process of checking out a few nights to see what it involves), then I was up early for my speed run and Slimming World as usual. As such, I decided to spend the afternoon reading, which has cleared my brain fug nicely and means I finally feel up to getting a few minor writing tasks done this evening.
Hoping for a more energetic day tomorrow.
OOTD: this is still a good Thursday outfit even on a non-Pilates day. Glasses Emporio Armani (2017), jumper Carlo Colucci (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2017).
Today’s earworm playlist:
Cadet and Deno – Advice Little Mix and Nicki Minaj – Woman Like Me Cast of The Greatest Showman – The Greatest Show Bros – When Will I Be Famous? Halsey – Without Me Joe McElderry – The Climb Ariana Grande – 7 Rings Jess Glynne – Thursday
There was still too much snow on the ground to go for a run this morning. I didn’t even fancy venturing out in it to go to the vintage fair that was on today, which tells you how much I am done with being out in the cold. Still, a lot of it has melted today, and Geth reckons it’ll be okay for his run tomorrow, so in the morning I will head out to get my hearing aid admin done at the hospital.
We did make the decision this weekend to buy a treadmill for when it’s too snowy for runs (or too wet, or too cold, or when I just feel like running in a nice warm living room with the TV on rather than going outside). As such, I’ll have no excuse for missing any more training runs after it arrives on Wednesday!
Today was another day in, then, and so I’ve spent the afternoon logging books for my collection on Goodreads and semi-watching the rugby from yesterday that Geth has had on TV. Wins for both Wales and Scotland this weekend, so it’s a happy house.
OOTD: comfy dress for a Sunday in. Glasses Emporio Armani (2017), dress unknown brand (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2018), belt H&M (2017), boots Moda In Pelle (2018).
Today’s earworm playlist:
Adam & The Ants – Prince Charming Duran Duran – New Moon On Monday Tears For Fears – Head Over Heels The Communards – Don’t Leave Me This Way Brian May – Too Much Love Will Kill You Duran Duran – Ordinary World David Bowie – Fashion Alison Moyet – All Cried Out Siouxsie & The Banshees – Happy House
…that I have escaped the ignominy of having to pay my Slimming World fee again! I lost the four pounds required to take me back into target range. Will try to lose a bit more this next week so that I’m more towards the middle of it again.
I went to WH Smith afterwards to pick up my Doctor Who Magazine (I’m several months behind with reading DWM, but I’ve been diligently buying all the issues so I can catch up at some point). I’ve been sternly telling myself that I need to cut down on magazines, because I never have time to read the ones I buy and it’s a bit of an expensive habit, but when I walked into the shop, all of these were on display:
Classic Pop Magazine – my new favourite magazine and also my new downfall, given that they keep releasing all these special editions about my favourite bands. Still not got round to reading the Pet Shop Boys one from two months ago!
Yeah. I’ll be starting that ‘cutting down’ thing next week.
Another quiet afternoon plugging away at work – Pilates class is on summer break till September so I’ve got plenty of time on a Thursday afternoon to get on with things at the moment.
Geth has been playing a lot of Final Fantasy XIII-2 this week, which has meant a lot of early nights reading for me. I expect I will be doing the same tonight, although I’ll possibly be forsaking my Kindle for making a start on that giant pile of magazines that I just added to.
OOTD: it’s still pretty warm around here. Vest top Primark (2018), skirt unknown brand (estimated 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2018).
I have a lot of work to do this August. A LOT of work. Along with a lot of other things to do. But after a couple of weeks of non-stop travelling, it was so nice to be able to sit down and just have a normal day at work today – no trains, no planes, no cheesecake temptation.
Geth was back in work today as well, so I was able to spend the afternoon (I started the day later than I would have liked – I’m still not over the jetlag yet) plugging away at various projects. I’m now having a relaxing evening of reading, with the pleasant background sound of Geth’s videogame. It’s good to be home.
OOTD: Duran Duran classic lineup t-shirt eBay/Fruit of the Loom (2018), jeans Miss Selfridge (2018), glasses Emporio Armani (2017).
By the post title, I mean deliberately getting back into one, and trying not to get back into another!
The good one is reading. As a child I was a voracious reader and the only time I didn’t have my nose in a book was when I was writing my own stories. Then I grew up and the internet happened, and I went to university where I had to read nonfiction books for research all day long, and so my reading habits shifted from novels to blogs and forums, and my fiction-consuming habits shifted almost solely to TV shows and videogames. I’ve never really fully got back into the habit of reading books, although I do make a concerted effort every few months – I’m fully aware that my own writing improves when I read actual published works rather than stuff on the internet, interesting as a lot of stuff on the internet is. As such, for the last couple of weeks – ever since we got access to our books – I’ve been reading for an hour before bed. Also, I got a Kindle for Christmas, and in the last week or so I’ve been filling it up with ebooks to read while I’m on holiday. I’m looking forward to having some time for that again.
The bad habit – which I indulged in today but am not intending to repeat – is buying mounds of cheap clothing in Primark. Since my wardrobe cull, it’s been very important to me that I don’t end up replacing the mounds of cheap and unwearable clothes with more mounds of cheap and unwearable clothes, and so the clothes I’ve been buying so far this year have been better quality investment pieces that I know will get lots of wear. I realised that I don’t have enough lightweight summer clothes for my upcoming holiday though – in the UK climate you don’t usually need a lot of summer clothes, although the ones I do own have been seeing a lot of use during the heatwave we’ve been having for the last few weeks – and so I did break my Primark ban this morning. I don’t expect the clothes will last long, but I know I’ll get a lot of use out of them this summer – and that I now have the de-hoarding mental strength to get rid of them when they do wear out, which is the important thing.
I’m nearly getting to the point where I have enough clothes again. Not quite, but nearly!
(Books, on the other hand, I have far too many of – hence the Kindle, to make sure I don’t buy any more physical ones.)
