UKGE day 1

The UK Games Expo has started! Well, in a way. It’s not actually open yet but we’ve done lots of stuff.

Geth and I drove down to the NEC this afternoon and met up with Sharpy, Heulwen, and Laura, our core UKGE crowd. After going to pick up our convention lanyards (shinily green this year, with added advertising for the latest Catan expansion), we went for dinner at Zizzi’s, and then Geth and I headed to the Bring & Buy to drop off the games we’re trying to sell this year. Hopefully they’ll bring us a bit of extra cash and make a bit of room on our game shelves for new ones!

We then rejoined the others for a few rounds of Spyfall, before I made my excuses and went up to bed (it was a long drive today and it’s going to be a long day of browsing game stalls tomorrow).

Home again

After a week of being back and forth between Newcastle and Edinburgh, I drove us home today. It’s nice to be back.

This evening we went out to the Martin Kemp DJ set at Wylam Brewery, which was the best night out I’ve had in ages! I’ll do a proper review in the next few days.

A nice quiet day tomorrow to get caught up with everything!

Welcome home car

Another busy day, but I’ll get back to my regularly scheduled review posts with Phone Box Thursday tomorrow!

I went to finish the paperwork for my new car this morning so that I could drive it home. It’s nice to have it sitting on the driveway! I’m planning to keep it in the garage long-term, though, so Geth and I need to do some tidying up in there.

I spent the afternoon doing work for clients, and then headed to ukulele class in the evening. I’m really enjoying the beginners’ class – we’re learning some interesting songs.

A slightly quieter day tomorrow!

Girl on wheels

Another day that’s been a little too busy for a review post. I do have a good reason though.

I bought a car today!

After months (years, really) of dithering about it and feeling like the whole thing was far too complicated, I made the most of Geth’s family visiting and went to the dealership to do some test drives. Due to some help from my father-in-law, I am now the owner of a nice little Skoda that will carry me, Geth and our increasing amounts of luggage when we want to go places! I’m picking it up tomorrow and am very excited about welcoming it home.

Following some sterling work on our garden (as well as the help with the car-buying), Keith and Helen headed off this evening after we’d had a nice meal in the local pub.

Another hectic day tomorrow, but it’s mostly the fun kind of hectic!

OOTD 14th May 2019
OOTD: to be fair it’s mostly the car in this picture – my comfy driving outfit was of secondary concern today! A slow start to the week

I got up early this morning because I needed to do some urgent work for a client, but other than that I’ve just spent today doing bits and pieces of writing and looking at cars that I might buy. I did get out for a walk as well, which was nice.

Hoping for a more focused writing day tomorrow.

OOTD 15th April 2019
OOTD: it feels like I’m never going to get out of these winter jumpers! Jumper unknown brand (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2019), jeans H&M (thrifted from Steff 2016), trainers Reebok (2017).

Doing Sunday like an actual adult

I hired a car from the car club again this morning so that Geth and I could collect a crate of beer for UK Games Expo (it’s a good month and a half away yet, but Geth had a Majestic Wines voucher that he wanted to use up) and then take some of our junk that we’d been keeping in the garage to the dump, like real grown-ups do at the weekend. We will be repeating this highly exciting chore next week, because there’s a lot more junk still to get rid of.

We then went to the local pub for lunch, as Geth was meeting some friends for boardgaming. I’ve been avoiding our local since I quit drinking, because I didn’t really want to be around somewhere that had so many cider associations for me. However, today it was okay – they do a nice ginger beer that I will log soon.

I then got some work done for clients that I hadn’t managed to finish during the week. More day job work tomorrow – I’m hoping for a bit of a lull over Easter so I can have a good go at my own writing projects as well.

OOTD 14th April 2019
OOTD: it got too late and dark to take an outdoor picture. Glasses Emporio Armani (2017), jumper Ellend (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2019), jeans Vivid (2018).

Richard Marx – Right Here Waiting
Alec Benjamin and Alessia Cara – Let Me Down Slowly
Duran Duran – The Reflex

On the move

Most of today was taken up with running – I’m into the most intensive week of my marathon training before the taper and so even my recovery runs take all morning now – and driving, as I went out in a car from the car club again. Now trying to squeeze in a few writing-related things I need to do.

A slightly more relaxed day tomorrow, other than the fact that I’ll be performing with my ukulele group at the end-of-term show tomorrow night. I’m looking forward to seeing all the other groups playing so that I can see what the standard is once you move on from the ‘absolute beginners’ group!

OOTD 2nd April 2019
OOTD: comfy outfit for a slightly harried day. Jumper Ellend (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2019), leggings Primark (2018), socks unknown brand (2007), trainers Reebok (2018).

Behind the wheel

I went out driving this morning, using the car club membership I’ve been neglecting since November. It’s been a good fifteen months since I last drove, but it all comes back to you. I’ll be buying a car soon, so I wanted to get used to it again before I go test driving.

I spent the rest of the day doing research and admin. Really looking forward to getting back to writing next week! I’ll be taking part in Camp NaNoWriMo during April, which is not quite as intensive as the November version but should encourage me to get more done every day. That pitch will be going out early next week as well – I’m done with letting everything else get in the way of it.

In the meantime, I’ll be concentrating on running over the weekend.
