Busy week in my own way

In addition to being really busy finishing my game this week, I’m prepping for my first long run in weeks on Thursday (legs permitting), so it’s going to be a bit of a mad one. Short posts for this week, and I’m looking forward to having a bit of breathing room again next week!

Where did the weekend go?

Time passes in the blink of an eye when I’m busy making a game!

It’s not finished yet. I’m going to have to squeeze in some work on it over the next couple of days.

Still dealing with the aches and pains but through the power of walk breaks and proper warming up I am able to run, mostly without discomfort. Another gentle mile tomorrow!

Physio Friday

The good news running-wise is that a couple of weeks of extra focus on the strength training has healed my leg issues really well. The bad news is that yesterday morning I woke up with a flare-up of the lower back issue that’s being investigated long-term at the moment. It’s this back issue that causes all my other issues (as it affects my form) so I’m going to have to be patient for another few days until it (hopefully) goes away.

That means another volunteering week at parkrun tomorrow! And a very quiet weekend otherwise – I’ve got a game to finish making.

Slow but hopeful!

Physio appointment went well this morning. There’s been some improvement since last week, and I’ve been advised that I can start building up the distances again as long as I take regular and extended walk breaks. I’m so happy and excited about that – bumbling along with walk breaks sounds like a really lovely way to get back into it, especially as the weather seems to be improving again.

I’m still plodding along with my game-making as well, which has really played a major role in taking my mind off my training break woes over the last few weeks – it’s meant I’ve not been sitting around being anxious about the whole thing.

Still game-making

I feel like I’ve been game-making for months without much to show for it! I’ve got a couple of fairly big projects on the go, one for release at the end of this month, one at the end of June. The illustrations for the June game are already done, but I’d rather keep them to myself (and testers) until nearer release. The ones for the April game will be an ‘end of next week’ project if I stick to schedule… so far I’m keeping up, just about!

I’m not going to wish away the time till release as it’s such an enjoyable process and one of the best things I ever got into, but I am really excited about getting these projects finished and out into the world.

Sunday dozing

I’ve been on the sofa making my game most of today. Geth was out doing the long run route from my 2021 marathon training block this morning, and I have to say I feel pretty envious – I really want to be back out there, and my legs do feel like they’re improving. I don’t want to risk anything until I’ve seen the physio, though. Four more days.

I’m really appreciating a bit of quiet at the moment. I’m sleeping better and feel very settled in what I’m doing. Just need to get the aches and pains sorted and everything will be golden 🙂

A bit of extra hibernation… in April

I was fully in a spring place after last week’s warm weather, but it’s been hail and snow for the last few days and my internal calendar has gone back into winter mode. It’s a quiet weekend for us this week and I’m looking forward to dozing on the sofa.

I spent some time today working out the plot issues in my big game project and I am much happier with it as a result. I’m really looking forward to getting the new version put together. Need to focus on the small April project first though!

Slight wistfulness but cracking on!

It was absolutely the right decision to delay the release of my current big game project to the ParserComp competition in June rather than rushing it into the Spring Thing festival this week, but I do feel a slight wistful pang that I won’t be entering the Thing this year. I’ve been testing a couple of other people’s games, so I still feel like I’m contributing in a small way. I’m also looking forward to playing all the entries once they become available. In the meantime, I’m getting on with my (much smaller) game for this year’s TALP jam, which will be my focus for the next month.

Speaking of wistful pangs, it’s hard not to feel like my marathon training is on hold at the moment. My leg hurts a little less during gentle exercise than it did yesterday, and that’s great, but I need to be patient and let it heal properly. I’m doing all the right things… I think.
