Choosing adventures

Not running adventures. Though there are always a few of those going on as well!

Since finishing reading an academic work on text adventure games last week (Twisty Little Passages – I won a signed copy from the author as a prize for winning PunyJam #2 last year), I’ve been drawn towards lighter bedtime reading and have pulled out my old childhood gamebook collection again. I’ve got a few Choose Your Own Adventure books and various other series to revisit (some with dice. I like dice).

There may be a return to Gamebook Wednesday posts soon as a result, but not today.

Back to normal

Back to work today, though still with chocolate for lunch. Shaping up to be a good week – still got that semi-holiday feeling.

I’m still buzzing after being able to do my slightly longer run on Sunday, and today I did a short run without any background aches and pains at all (not even the usual ones caused by chronic stuff). Feeling good and hoping for some more improvement at the physio later this week.

Home

Back home in Newcastle with a ton of chocolate to eat over the next few days!

A few quiet weeks knuckling down now. I’ve got a couple of games to finish making and a marathon to finish training for (gently).

Easter…

…and it’s the evening and I’ve still not cracked my eggs open because I’m stuffed from Easter lunch. I reckon the chocolate will last me all week.

I was able to do a six-mile gentle run (with a few walk breaks) this morning, which I am thrilled about. It was a really lovely morning and a really lovely run. I’m planning the next long run for the Thursday after next, so will stay mostly rested until then.

parkrunday: Pendle #347

A weekend visit to the in-laws also means a visit to Pendle parkrun, which as a two-lapper feels a lot more compact than Jesmond Dene but is probably fairly similar in terms of elevation. As I’m still letting my leg recover at the moment, I didn’t push it, and so I was very surprised to end up with a course PB. That’s given me a bit more confidence for getting back into training!

No picture today. I did take one but it’s awful!

Back to my regular adventures at Jesmond Dene next week.

Slow but hopeful!

Physio appointment went well this morning. There’s been some improvement since last week, and I’ve been advised that I can start building up the distances again as long as I take regular and extended walk breaks. I’m so happy and excited about that – bumbling along with walk breaks sounds like a really lovely way to get back into it, especially as the weather seems to be improving again.

I’m still plodding along with my game-making as well, which has really played a major role in taking my mind off my training break woes over the last few weeks – it’s meant I’ve not been sitting around being anxious about the whole thing.

Still game-making

I feel like I’ve been game-making for months without much to show for it! I’ve got a couple of fairly big projects on the go, one for release at the end of this month, one at the end of June. The illustrations for the June game are already done, but I’d rather keep them to myself (and testers) until nearer release. The ones for the April game will be an ‘end of next week’ project if I stick to schedule… so far I’m keeping up, just about!

I’m not going to wish away the time till release as it’s such an enjoyable process and one of the best things I ever got into, but I am really excited about getting these projects finished and out into the world.
