Garden results!

Our gardens are finally looking civilised after the in-laws finished with them today!

Garden plants

The back garden surround has all been membraned over and covered with pebbles, meaning the weeds will stay away for the most part! Neither Geth nor I have time to do much gardening, so we wanted something that required minimal care. Geth’s stepmum Helen chose plants that won’t grow too quickly or too big, but will still fill the space nicely.

Garden roundel

In the front garden, meanwhile, our feature roundel is looking much better than it did! We originally had two overgrown pine trees in this space, which had become entwined with the two blossom trees that stand outside the roundel. Earlier this year, we had them cut down to give the blossom trees some breathing space, but the stumps had become a bit overgrown with weeds over the last couple of months with the warmer weather. As such, Keith and Helen have membraned this area as well and used some old pebbles and rocks from the garden, as well as some small plants, to create a pretty rockery. I think it looks great!

Otherwise it’s just been a fairly straightforward day at work – I finished a big project for a client that I’d been working on for ages this morning, and have spent the afternoon doing a bit of writing as I’ll be too busy to get much done over the next couple of days.

Looking forward to an evening chilling out with some of the ’80s movies that arrived through the door today!

Shiny things, shiny thoughts

I’m finding it really hard to concentrate on things at the moment. My brain constantly seems to be in five places at once, and I’m always breaking off in the middle of things to do random Google searches before I realise what’s happening, and every day seems to fly by without me getting anywhere near as much done as I wanted to get done.

This has been the case my whole life to an extent – I’m a terrible daydreamer, always have been, because it just goes along with the territory when you’re a writer (and is also a very easy habit to get into when you’re a hard of hearing child!) – but in recent months it has really started affecting my work. Geth thinks I need a break, and he’s probably right, but in all honesty the most stressful thing for me is the feeling of constantly falling behind with everything, and taking time off would just make that worse. I don’t know what to do.

Today has been mostly taken up with day job work (which is taking me a lot longer than it should do due to the above) and admin. I had hoped to get the former finished today, but it didn’t happen, so I’ll be getting up early tomorrow to finish it off so that I can try and relax a bit over the weekend.

Summer sun

Finally some nice weather today! And I made the most of it by…staying in the house all day ’cause I was a bit tired after last night. Got to get that garden finished so that I’m more inclined to sit out!

Last night was hectic but ultimately successful. I lost for the second week in a row at Slimming World – only a pound, but I’d rather get into a pattern of small losses every week than keep doing the ‘lose five, gain five!’ thing that has characterised my results since race season began. My next race is the Great North 10k on the 7th of July, and I am so determined not to gain that week. I’ll have to be really strict to mitigate the post-race bloat that always seems to happen at the moment.

I then went to ukulele class – it was running late, so I had to skip out before the last song, as I wanted to get to poetry night in time to make sure I could read again. I’m still a bit nervous before performing, but I think I’m gradually getting better at it. Geth took a video, which I *may* be brave enough to post later in the week (no promises though!).

Have had a fairly quiet day today – Mum and Dad visited in the morning on their way back from Sweden, and I’ve spent the afternoon getting on with writing. Just a few things to finish off tomorrow and then I can chill out for the weekend.

Staying out of the rain

I’m seeing a lot of complaints on social media today about how hot and muggy it is. This is not the case in Newcastle. It’s wet and miserable, and Geth and I had the fire on all morning.

As such, it has been a good day for staying in the house and getting work done. I spent the morning editing for clients, and am now getting on with my own writing. Geth is playing the remastered version of Final Fantasy XII at the moment, which is nicely soundtracking my work.

A slightly more hectic day tomorrow, so I’m glad I’ve been able to get so much done today!

Damn your eyes

No New Hits Friday today as Geth is coming home and we’re doing belated birthday celebrations. I’ll catch up with the chart over the weekend!

I’ve just spent today getting admin and writing done otherwise. I also called the hospital, because much as I would have loved the eye saga to be over after I finally finished the course of eye drops this week, it appears the uveitis has now shown up in the other eye. Perfect timing. 🙁 As such, I will be spending tomorrow morning in the waiting room of the eye clinic again.

Hopefully the treatment itself will be as straightforward as last time.

Slow progress

I lost a measly half a pound at Slimming World this morning. I was hoping for more and am a bit annoyed. Still, I felt I was on track all week because of doing a food diary, so I’ve decided to keep doing them until I get back into my target range. I always log my food anyway, but doing an actual diary that you have to hand in makes everything more accountable.

I’ve had a good day of writing otherwise, and have got some music practice in too. Hoping for another productive day tomorrow, because I’ve got a lot to do before Geth gets back from Oslo tomorrow evening.

OOTD 20th June 2019

Still tapping away

I’m still sleeping late, but I’m just about managing to get everything done. Today was all about editing for clients and doing my own writing until it was time to go out to ukulele class.

I’m now chilling out with music and books. Hoping for a good result at Slimming World tomorrow as I’ve been really strict this week.

Sunshine walks part two: medical errands edition

I had a doctor’s appointment this morning (I needed to renew my regular medication) and then a quick trip to the hospital afterwards to pick up some hearing aid batteries. Nice to listen to some podcasts in the sunshine!

Day job work and writing all afternoon, and now settling in for the evening with some music.

Out in the sunshine

The weather is finally improving and feeling marginally more summery! I went out for a walk (well, really to go to Asda ’cause I’d run out of fizzy juice) this morning, which felt nice after a few days of being cooped up. I’ve spent the rest of the day editing for clients and doing my own writing.

Out again tomorrow morning – again it’s for a boring reason (doctor’s appointment) but it’ll be another nice walk if the weather stays like this.

OOTD 17th June 2019
OOTD: brightening up gradually! Hoodie Sonar (2006), t-shirt Punk Masters (2018), jeans Zara (2018), trainers Reebok (2013).

Finally feeling more alert

My 8am alarm meant I was awake by 9.30am this morning. That’s an improvement, I suppose. I really need my mornings back this week because I’ve got a lot of work on, as well as an exercise routine that I need to get back into after neglecting it for a couple of weeks due to my cold.

Today has mainly been about writing and reading so far – planning to get a bit of ukulele practice in too before catching up with some TV this evening.
