Counting down

Last few days before Hallowe’en. I’ve still got a lot to do, the main thing being to get my text adventure game finished! It’ll be a bit of a squeeze but I’ll get it done. I’ve also got an article to finish, some editing to do for a client and a poem or two to write – not to mention a lantern to carve and a lot of TV and films to watch! Going to be a busy few days.

I’ve mainly been coding and walking today (still getting those steps in every day). Up early tomorrow to get started again!

Hallowe'en paraphernalia
Not an OOTD: my pumpkin is still uncarved, and Geth has put some boardgames on the table that we will probably be selling next year, including Fury of Dracula (the cover of which is now annoying me because I’ve only just noticed that despite the game’s title, Dracula actually looks really happy on the box artwork!).

Today’s earworm playlist:

Michael Land – The Smugglers’ Cave
Michael Land – The Scumm Bar (MI4)
Blancmange – Living On The Ceiling
Squeeze – Tempted
Duran Duran – Secret Oktober

Inside

I’ve had a day in the house today (meaning a treadmill walk this evening to get my steps in!). I’ve mainly been working on my text adventure – the end is in sight in terms of the actual programming, but I’ve still got quite a lot of graphics to create.

I’ve also spent a bit more time looking into job opportunities. There’s a few different things I could do and I’m going to spend a bit more time researching them this weekend.

Looking forward to having another go at Jesmond Dene parkrun tomorrow morning!

Pixel turnip lanterns
Not an OOTD: some more pixel details, this time of turnip lanterns.

Today’s earworm playlist:

Jon & Vangelis – I’ll Find My Way Home
Michael Land – Inside The Governor’s Mansion
Squeeze – Up The Junction
Duran Duran – Secret Oktober

Onwards to tomorrow

I had a good walk this morning, but otherwise it’s been a bit of a frustrating day as I’ve not been able to concentrate or get everything done. Hopefully I’ll be a bit more with-it tomorrow.

I’m tentatively jobhunting at the moment, as business has been slow recently and some additional financial commitments mean that I really need to find some extra work. Will be sending out a lot of applications this weekend.

Jars of pesto
Not an OOTD: on the plus side, at least my pesto stocks are looking healthy.

Today’s earworm playlist:

New Order – Temptation
Gomez – Whippin’ Piccadilly
Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett – The Monster Mash
John Lennon – Woman

Done with the edit

I spent all of today working on the editing for the magazine that I mentioned yesterday. It was a lot of work but the magazine design looks great and I’m looking forward to seeing the final version! Will post about it once it’s out.

It was dark by the time I finished, so I went for a treadmill run this evening to get my steps in.

Back to writing and working on my game tomorrow!

Today’s earworm playlist:

Manami Kiyota – Lasaria Woodland
Go West – Goodbye Girl
Depeche Mode – Shake The Disease
Barry Manilow – Copacabana
Tight Fit – Fantasy Island

Running and editing

Just a quick post today as I’ve been busy!

I went out for another run this morning (which felt great – better than any run I’ve done for over a year), watched the Chicago Marathon on TV this afternoon, and since then have been working in my capacity as one of the copy-editors for a subculture magazine. This is voluntary work that I’ll talk a bit more about when the magazine comes out, but for now suffice to say that today has been a lot of work but very interesting!

Back to the regular routine tomorrow, although I will go out for another short run. Might remember to take an interesting picture as well!

Today’s earworm playlist:

Michael Jackson – Dirty Diana
Koichi Sugiyama and Takenori Yamamori – Unknown World
Traditional – Abide With Me

Stepping up

Mostly a day job day today, but I did get out for a walk as I needed to go to the hospital to get one of my hearing aids fixed. I’m trying to hit my Garmin step count every day at the moment, so I might need to pace a bit more this evening to get to target!

A quiet evening in with TV tonight, and a nice quiet weekend ahead.

Garmin step count
Not an OOTD: might need to wander around the living room for half an hour or so!

Today’s earworm playlist:

Sigala, Ella Eyre, Meghan Trainor and French Montana – Just Got Paid
A-ha – The Sun Always Shines On TV
Tones & I – Dance Monkey
Duran Duran – Ordinary World
Andy Taylor – I Might Lie
Lizzo – Truth Hurts

Getting the coats out again

I’m finding it’s definitely coat weather now. I’m also finding I need to plug a few gaps in my September-to-January coat warmth spectrum, so for the moment I’m overheating slightly in one that’s a bit too heavy.

However, it’s nice to get out at the moment when it’s not raining, because the trees are turning beautifully and the leaves are nice to crunch through. I went for my usual Thursday walk to Slimming World and the supermarket this morning, and have been spending the rest of the day doing a bit of work.

More of the same tomorrow.

Autumn coat, 1989
Not today’s OOTD: a favourite coat from three decades ago.

Today’s earworm playlist:

Kygo and Whitney Houston – Higher Love

The best daytime TV…

…is the collection of old episodes of Top of the Pops that I’ve recorded off BBC Four at the weekends and then have on in the background during the week. Far superior to house-buying shows or Jeremy Kyle or whatever it is the main channels show during actual daytime hours.

I got a good few watched today because I was still catching up with admin. I then headed out to ukulele class in the evening (songs are feeling easier!) and have been doing a few writing jobs since then.

Back to the day job tomorrow as soon as I’m done with Slimming World weigh-in.

Top of the Pops 1985
Not an OOTD: a 1985 episode of Top of the Pops on our 2010s flatscreen. I still miss John Peel.

Today’s earworm playlist:

Jax Jones and Bebe Rexha – Harder
Billie Eilish – Bad Guy
Blancmange – Living On The Ceiling
Tones & I – Dance Monkey
Jim Croce – Bad, Bad Leroy Brown
Peter Hames – Ordinary Man
Charlie Puth – One Call Away
Lizzo – Truth Hurts
Dominic Fike – 3 Nights

Can I sleep yet?

Another hectic day today. I went for a walk to the supermarket first thing, and then came home to do a full day of editing work for clients. Now catching up with a few admin and writing jobs this evening.

Dragging myself to parkrun in the morning, and then Geth and I have boardgaming guests round to continue our Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth campaign tomorrow afternoon! Hoping to get the bulk of the campaign finished so that we can start a more seasonally spooky game in October.

Sunday will be for sleeping. I hope!

Sleeping, September 1988
Not today’s OOTD: sleep, glorious sleep, on a gloriously ’80s grey leather sofa in a beautifully coordinated and comfortable blue ensemble.

Today’s earworm playlist:

Michael Land – Phatt Island
Gary Numan – Cars
Duran Duran – Union Of The Snake
Peter Hames – Ordinary Man
Elton John – I’m Still Standing
Jim Croce – Bad, Bad Leroy Brown
Michael Land – The Scumm Bar (MI4)
JLS – Everybody In Love

One of those hectic Wednesdays

The manic week continues. I’m looking forward to the weekend so I can get on with making a few improvements to my text adventure game.

After finishing off my poems for tonight’s poetry reading this morning (I really wish this didn’t get left till the last minute every month, but it is what it is), I had editing work to do for a client during the rest of the day. I then headed off to ukulele class (I’ve been able to squeeze in a bit of practice here and there over the last few days, so last week’s challenging songs are already feeling a bit less challenging!), followed by a mad dash to poetry night. I’m not really nervous about reading at poetry night anymore, and it’s become something I really enjoy doing every month.

I read a poem about autumn tonight. I love autumn.

I’ll love it a whole lot more once this ridiculously busy week is over.

Autumn 1985
Not really an OOTD (or at least an extremely belated one): discovering autumn for the first time, a very long time ago. Those crunchy leaves have never lost their appeal, although I’m probably less likely to try and eat them nowadays.

Today’s earworm playlist:

Michael Land – The Scumm Bar (MI4)
Marilyn Monroe – Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend
Aaron Carter – Crush On You
