…and it’s going to be one of those weeks where every day is the same, in a good way. I’ve got a day job project that will last until next week, I’ll be doing multiple run training every day until the weekend, and I’ve got a house decor project that I’m working on every day as well. As such, my updates won’t be very exciting for the next few days, but I’ll be very content!
Supplies for my decor project – I’m framing lots of souvenirs that have been sitting in boxes for a while. Looking forward to getting the results up on the wall at the weekend.
Today’s earworm playlist:
Mark Knopfler – ‘Local Hero’ Sacre – ‘The London Marathon [Theme From The Trap]’ Carl Orff – ‘Gassenhauer’
…and then I spent the rest of the day doing some admin, planning out my work for the week and making the first of my running memorabilia collage frames!
I’ve also been doing a lot of recovery yoga – not the YouTube videos as I don’t want to do anything too strenuous right now, but instead just getting onto my mat and doing all my favourite stretches that help with my aches and pains, along with some foam rolling. I’ll probably do this for another day or two before getting back to ‘Yoga with Adriene’.
Back to work proper tomorrow – it will be interspersed with a few runs as I’m doing my 24-hour challenge training again this week.
Following on from Saturday’s 2015 t-shirt, here’s this year’s! Not a ‘real’ GNR shirt but a nice addition to the collection nonetheless.
Today’s earworm playlist:
The Knack – ‘My Sharona’ Sacre – ‘The London Marathon [Theme From The Trap]’ Toni Braxton – ‘Unbreak My Heart’ Pink – ‘Raise Your Glass’
…as it’s all short easy runs until Sunday’s Virtual GNR. So excited about the race and happy that the weekend is here! I’ll be starting by getting up early tomorrow and watching the elite-only Antrim Coast Half Marathon livestream. Mo Farah is competing, so it’ll be nice to watch him run this weekend, even if it’s not in Newcastle!
Geth and I went to Asda today and stocked up on all the stuff we need for eating over the weekend (I will be doing a lot of eating on Sunday). I also finished my work for the week and am really pleased that I can have the full weekend off! Not always a given at this time of year 🙂
I’ll be posting my running vlogs over the weekend, including my Virtual GNR vlog on Sunday, and will be back on Monday with a weekend update and a race review. A virtual race is not the same as an in-person race, but it’s the closest I’ve got right now, and I can’t wait!
We stocked up on a ton of protein bars at Asda. Protein bars are my favourite running food because they’re basically glorified chocolate bars but you’re allowed to call them ‘healthy fuel’. I expect I’ll get through a few on race day!
Today’s earworm playlist:
Take That – ‘Never Forget’ Wiz Khalifa – ‘Black And Yellow’
…and then a short walk. It felt like a much lighter day exercise-wise than I’ve been doing recently! As such, I feel like I’ve got a bit of energy to get rid of, but that is best saved for the virtual race on Sunday.
I spent most of today working – I’ve had a lot of day job work this week, which is great and is keeping me from obsessing about the race too much. I also did a quick clean of my car, which I’d been putting off for months. I managed to get some of the glitter off the backseat from last year’s Christmas wrapping paper, but not all – I think it will always be glittery to some extent!
One last day of work tomorrow, and then I’ll be able to enjoy the weekend – last weekend was really busy with work and I haven’t managed to take a day off during the week, so I’m really looking forward to it!
This bumper sticker arrived this week, so other drivers will now be able to… tell what running club I’m in 😀
…and now the next few days will just be gentle recovery mile-long runs in order to save my legs for the Virtual GNR on Sunday. I’m getting really excited now!
Other than my run and my yoga session, I’ve just spent today doing a bit of work and sorting out some pre-race admin. Same again tomorrow!
My new frames, ready for me to put my running collages together. I’m really hoping that I will actually have some time to work on these at the weekend!
Today’s earworm playlist:
Toni Braxton – ‘Unbreak My Heart’ Elvis Presley – ‘It’s Now Or Never’
And a couple of bonus tracks that Geth was humming earlier:
The Lancashire Hotpots – ‘The Technical Support Song’ Eiffel 65 – ‘Blue (Da Ba Dee)’
…as today was my first session of specific training for my 24-hour London Marathon challenge, i.e. first session of running several mile(ish)-long runs on the same day. I’ll be doing this quite a lot over the next few weeks in order to get used to the hourly runs scheduled for the 4th of October. I’ve already learnt quite a few things just from doing four runs at three-hour intervals over the course of today!
When I’ve not been running, I’ve been working. As I explained yesterday, the September rush has started, so I’m juggling a lot of clients at the moment. I don’t mind busy work weeks like this, though, as it means I have more momentum than on weeks when it’s a bit piecemeal and stop-start (i.e. most weeks!).
Have also enjoyed a nice yoga session, and am now putting my feet up with some YouTube videos this evening.
I spent most of today hanging around in my old trackies from my 1990s teenage years in order to keep warm. Planning lots of kit changes for the 24-hour challenge because I felt a bit grim being in the same stuff all day!
…which I really enjoyed! I’ll be incorporating more of those sessions into my training once my autumn challenges are done.
I’ve spent most of today (and most of the weekend) doing day job work. The early autumn rush has started – thankfully! It usually starts in August, and I was a bit worried it would be a lot quieter this year with people falling behind with studies due to the ongoing uncertainty about pretty much everything, but it has finally picked up and so I’ll be working pretty much non-stop for the next few weeks. Lots of running and cross-training to do too, but today I managed a really good balance and I’m hopeful that the next few days will be similar.
More day job work and more running tomorrow.
We actually had post today, whoop! Quite incredibly, it included the hearing aid batteries from the hospital that I sent off for weeks and weeks ago and assumed had been lost.
Today’s earworm playlist:
U2 – ‘Elevation’ Vangelis – ‘Chariots Of Fire’ Sacre – ‘The London Marathon [Theme From The Trap]’ Kiki Dee – ‘Star’
…which was a nice way to start the day and clear my head, as I was really busy with day job work today. I was able to get out for a walk to the supermarket with Geth at lunchtime too.
Other than that, I’ve just been getting work finished for clients today. There’ll be a bit more work over the weekend, but hopefully tomorrow will be slightly lighter.
I’ll be back with another update on Monday. Running vlogs as usual for the next couple of days!
My new evening treat – hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows. A bit lighter than the ice cream I’ve been having over the summer!
Today’s earworm playlist:
Roxette – ‘Sleeping In My Car’ Carl Orff – ‘Gassenhauer’ Kiki Dee – ‘Star’ Rizzle Kicks – ‘Down With The Trumpets’
…followed by a nice walk in the sunshine. I’m really happy with my daily routine at the moment. I’m usually done with running/walking/yoga by noon, and then I can crack on with day job work/admin in the afternoon and be done by eight or nine at night so that I can relax for a couple of hours before bed. I’m not at all a morning person, but strangely, I have turned out to be a morning exerciser – I feel very unsettled on days when I have to do it in the evenings – so keeping to a more traditional nine-to-five schedule for work and then running afterwards just wouldn’t work for me at all.
Tomorrow will be busy as I’ve got a couple of clients with tight deadlines at the moment. It looks like I’ll be working over the weekend as well, which is often the case at this time of year, but I’m really grateful that the work is coming in, as it looked for a while like September might be quieter than usual.
I’ve been digging out more art for the walls. I bought this one from Vincent Fantasy Art at UKGE a few years ago, but haven’t found a space for it yet. This is the week!
Today’s earworm playlist:
Carl Orff – ‘Gassenhauer’ Vangelis – ‘Chariots Of Fire’
…and I’m feeling really happy with my running this week – I was a bit concerned at the weekend because my legs were feeling really stiff and didn’t seem to be easing off, but they’re doing a lot better after a few days of recovery runs. Another two miles tomorrow before building back up over the weekend.
I was mostly doing day job work today, but I also spent some time making plans for house decor. The frames arrived for a large wall project I’m going to be working on over the next few weeks – I just need to wait for the photos I ordered from Freeprints so I can get on with things! Unfortunately the photo prints are being sent via Royal Mail (see Thursday’s post for my current woes on that subject), and we haven’t had a delivery on our street since Saturday. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
I did, however, put up a framed print that has been sitting around upstairs for the two and a half years since we moved in. One step closer to covering up our horrible magnolia walls (they will all get painted or wallpapered eventually, but it’s going to take a long time).
I am properly enjoying my evenings in now that autumn is officially here (meteorologically speaking). I’ve got the incense and candles going on the hearth (need to stock up!) and am appreciating the earlier darkness. I know a lot of people miss summer when it’s gone but I am not one of them – I’ve been looking forward to this time for months.
Hoping for another productive day tomorrow… and maybe another item up on the wall!
It’s not quite time to have the fires on yet (although I have been blasting them in the mornings when I get cold after my run!), so the hearth is home to lit candles and incense in the evenings now. I’m not short of regular candles but am nearly out of home fragrance so need to stock up soon.
Today’s earworm playlist:
Rizzle Kicks – ‘Down With The Trumpets’ Sacre – ‘The London Marathon’ Jared Emerson-Johnson – ‘New Location Unlocked [Midtown Remix]’
