NaNoWriMo begins, and another Slimming World award!

It’s been a really good day today, even if it wasn’t quite the start to NaNoWriMo that I wanted!

I was so keen to get writing that I stayed up past midnight last night to start November with a couple of paragraphs, and then managed to get some more done before I went to Slimming World this morning.  I lost half a pound this week, taking me back into target range (I swear staying in range is harder than getting to target in the first place!), and was also delighted when my group voted me their Miss Slinky 2018!  I got some lovely flowers and a certificate.  I felt a bit embarrassed though as it’s the third award I’ve won this year – next year I’ll be happy for someone else to have a chance!

When I got home, I found a client had sent me some urgent work to do, so I got that done and then managed to squeeze in another hour of writing before I had to go to Pilates.  After Pilates (and a detour to the pub to meet Geth), I was finally able to get into my writing properly, and have just finished for the day.  I’ve managed nearly 4,000 words on my NaNo novel today, which puts me well on track for my goal this month (my aim is not just to get the standard 50,000 words for the month but also finish the draft, which I’m expecting to take closer to 80,000 words).  Not bad for a mostly-interrupted day!  Looking forward to a more solid day of writing tomorrow.

Happy Hallowe’en!

It’s finally Hallowe’en…and because my job is what it is, I’ve spent all day and evening doing work for clients.  I’ve also had a lot of Treehouse Of Horror and Now ’80s Hallowe’en playlists (including the full version of Thriller! nice touch) on in the background, though, so it’s not been all bad!

Geth and I also had our very first guisers ever knocking on the door for treats!  In all of our eleven years living together at previous residences, we’ve never had them before.  It’s a nice sign that we’re living in a proper suburban location now!

(Of course we had treats ready, ’cause every Hallowe’en we buy them just in case.  It’s just that it’s usually us who ends up eating them!)

Hallowe’en week

Because I’ve been doing my month-long horrorthon and have properly decorated the house this year, I feel, for once, like I’m properly celebrating Hallowe’en.  Geth and I had guests round to play horror boardgames last night, I’ve been doing my annual Simpsons Treehouse Of Horror rewatch, and I’ve eaten far too much Hallowe’en chocolate already!

I also finished my outline for this year’s NaNoWriMo novel today.  I’ve got an 8,100-word outline, which is more detail than I’ve ever done for any novel in the past, and I am so excited to start writing on Thursday.

One more day of horror films and delicious sweet things to get through first, though!

A twenty-five-hour Sunday

A good quiet day for getting on with stuff.  I got a lot of writing done again, and Geth and I went to Asda to get Hallowe’en supplies for the next few days.  I’m now settling in for my autumn Sunday evening of Doctor Who and the Strictly results!  The clocks having gone back today makes it feel even cosier.

Being so pushed for time at the moment, I REALLY appreciated the extra hour, too!

Back to running again

After a couple of weeks off running since the Yorkshire 10 Mile, I went to parkrun today.  It was freezing cold and miserable out on the Town Moor, with the wind blowing sleet into my face and giving me a sleet headache (which I didn’t know was a thing until this morning), and so I wasn’t nearly as fast as I have been recently.  That’s a bit disappointing, but hopefully the conditions will be better next week.

I’ve been able to have a nice afternoon catching up with It Takes Two before the main Strictly show tonight, as well as getting on with my writing.  Another nice quiet day tomorrow.

OOTD 27th October 2018
OOTD: this is my ‘it’s stupidly cold out there, I’m not leaving the house again’ outfit. Jumper Carlo Colucci (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2017), leggings Primark (2018), boots Carefree (2017).

Excitement, and a bonus handkerchief update

Another productive day of getting work done for clients, writing, and getting excited about Hallowe’en.  I’ve picked out the boardgames for the event we’re hosting on Monday, and am looking forward to making a Spotify playlist to go with them!

Bonus handkerchief update:

I mentioned the other day that one of the dresses from my vintage fair haul had yielded a bonus handkerchief that had been left in the pocket.  While I don’t use and have never used old-fashioned cloth handkerchieves for the actual intended usage of blowing my nose (because EWWW, they invented more hygienic disposable tissues for that as far back as the ’20s), I have always collected them, because people kept giving me their old ones when I was a little girl without realising that I would grow up to be a HOARDER WHO WOULD HOARD THEM ALL.  Yes, I still have this particular hoard, and I thought this new bonus one would be a good addition to the collection.

I was obviously going to wash it first, though, because even though it was neatly folded in a way that indicated it hadn’t been unfolded for over thirty years, you don’t know where things have been if you buy them secondhand.  When I found it in the pile of clean laundry that Geth had tumble-dried today, though, I was surprised to find it was all creased.  Why was it not nice and flat like the rest of my handkerchief hoard, like I had found it the other day?

Then I remembered that there is this thing called an iron that I have never owned (I (a) once accidentally burnt a silk tie of Geth’s and have been too scared of ruining stuff ever to try ironing again, and (b) don’t have the time for ironing), and had a strange, terrible flashback to a memory from early childhood involving people actually taking the time to iron their handkerchieves.  Did people ever do that?  Maybe it was just my mum teaching me how to iron by letting me iron something small and cotton that couldn’t be ruined?  Either way, I’ve got the horrible feeling that I’m going to have to take my bonus handkerchief with me the next time I visit someone who owns an iron (99% certain this will be Mum and Dad) so that I can iron it flat, because until then it’s not fit to join the rest of the handkerchieves in my hoard.  Sorry, bonus handkerchief.

I’m sure you were all eagerly anticipating that update.

A mixed Thursday

Today was…a good day?  I think?  It was quite productive, but I’ve felt pretty tired and irritable all day, because I didn’t sleep that well last night.  I think my brain is starting to protest about being made to watch so many horror films.

I’ve done a lot of writing today, though, and that always cheers me up.

OOTD 25th October 2018

Duran Duran – Notorious
Cher – If I Could Turn Back Time
Bananarama – Robert De Niro’s Waiting

Getting excited about Hallowe’en

I blitzed through with work today to get it all done by mid-afternoon, so that I could (a) get the old digiboxes from years ago set up upstairs and access all the old horror films I’d recorded back then, and (b) get the house decorated for Hallowe’en!  It’s looking nice and spooky now, and will look even better at the weekend once I start getting the lanterns carved.

I’ve got another long work day tomorrow, but I’m hoping to have some time for a quick bit of house stuff as well!
