A busy Tuesday

I went for a run this morning, my legs just about having recovered from the two I did at the weekend. I’ve swapped my Tuesday and Thursday runs around on my training plan as I have more time on Tuesday mornings, so today’s run was a recovery pace run, which was probably better after the weekend anyway.

I also got a lot of writing work done today – editing one project and planning out another – and over an hour’s practice on my ukulele. Sometimes I feel like I’m starting to get the hang of the chord transitions, and at other times it just feels hopeless. Need to keep plugging away!

I’m looking forward to class tomorrow, ’cause hopefully we’ll be given some new chords and tunes to practise.

My new appreciation for rest days

Marathon training is tiring. I knew it would be, and I’m not moaning, because I signed up for it willingly and I want to run this marathon. However, it is making me appreciate days like today – when I get to sit on the sofa and get on with my work – all the more. Week 4 is a ‘rest week’ in my training plan, which sadly doesn’t mean I get to take a whole week off, but it does mean that my runs this week will be shorter.

As such, I’m looking forward to extra writing time tomorrow!

Too much legwork

It’s been a long day in some ways! I got up and went for my long run this morning. It was pretty tiring given that I did parkrun yesterday as well, and the combination meant that my legs are a bit sore now.

Normally I’d spend the afternoon resting in the house after a long run, but there was a vintage fair on in town today, and I can’t resist a vintage fair, especially when it’s the first one of the year.

I’ve been able to have the evening on the sofa though, and thankfully I don’t have to leave the house tomorrow (well…I sort of should, because I need to go to the hospital for new hearing aid batteries, but I reckon I can cope with one hearing aid until Tuesday, when I’ll have a bit more time).

Back on the moor

I did parkrun for the first time today since the 27th of October, which is a bit alarming. My time is obviously quite a bit slower at the moment from what I was managing last summer, but I should be able to build it up again over the next few months.

A day off for the rest of today, sort of! I’ve been reading about writing rather than doing actual writing. I feel kind of anxious about that, like I should be doing proper work, but I did say I’d try and give myself weekends off this year. I also got some more books logged on Goodreads (I’m trying to do our whole collection at the moment) and caught up with a year’s worth of a webcomic I’d been neglecting. All good semi-productive weekend activities.

Slightly busier day tomorrow!

Still writing

I’ve spent all day editing one of my writing projects, which has been nice. The project is probably my favourite of all the ones I’m working on at the moment, so I’ve found I’ve been neglecting the others this week. Like I said yesterday, there’s good procrastination and bad procrastination!

Now for an evening of celebrating the arrival of Geth’s sabbatical, which means he will be spending the next few months working from home without being encumbered by teaching or admin. I’ve got some good booze alternatives in to make things feel celebratory.

No Burns Supper tonight, which is the second year in a row I’ve neglected the occasion. I do have some Diet Irn-Bru to make up for it.

Procrastination

I’m still not getting the stuff I’m supposed to be doing done in that Thursday afternoon gap between Slimming World and Pilates. After an inspiring class last night, the draw of my ukulele was too much* and I spent all afternoon practising instead of getting on with my writing work. I didn’t even have the excuse of an early run tiring me out today!

Oh well. Just need to rejig my schedule for tomorrow and I should be back on track. Anyway, I suppose ‘music practice’ procrastination is better than ‘mindless browsing the web’ procrastination.

*This is mainly because I cannot get the songs we’ve been playing in class out of my head (see earworm playlist below) – and the version that gets in my head is my own badly played ukulele performance rather than the actual song! If this is going to continue, I at least need to get marginally better at the songs so that there aren’t as many duff notes in my earworms. I hate my brain.

OOTD 24th January 2019

A busy Wednesday

I got lots of work done today! Five writing projects worked on, one appointment made, one ukulele class attended. Ukulele class is still moving nice and fast and I have lots of new songs to practise this week.

It’s freezing and icy outside so I’m skipping my run tomorrow, but I’m going to rejig things for next week ’cause I can’t afford to be a fairweather runner during marathon training.

Other worlds

I got in my Tuesday speed run this morning. The last couple of Tuesdays it wasn’t much of a ‘speed run’, but today I did finally feel like I could go a bit faster.

I’ve spent the rest of the day working on various different fiction projects. As I’ve mentioned before, it’s a bit difficult to keep my head straight when I’m juggling so many at once, but I’m so enthused about them all that I’m really enjoying it.

More reading tonight! I love winter and its potential for hibernation.

Back in Newcastle again after a weekend in Lancashire for yesterday’s family gathering. We left the pub where we were staying fairly early this morning, so Mum and Dad were able to drop us off at home soon after one, and I’ve been able to spend the afternoon reading on the sofa, which has been the best.

A quick bit of writing to do tonight, but otherwise more of the same before an early night in preparation for work tomorrow.
