…as I’ve got another long run coming up on Sunday and I need to save some energy. I’ll probably just do a mile tomorrow as well. I am still doing my daily walking though – four miles to squash the last of my bugs in my online game today. Hopefully it’ll just be a straightforward one or two miles for my new bug tomorrow!
I got my day job work finished for the week as well, and am now just finishing off some admin this evening. Hoping to get a bit of videogaming in this weekend amongst all the running!
I’ll post my running vlogs as usual over the weekend but otherwise will be back on Monday.
First brambles of the year spotted on my walk today! Autumn is so nearly here 🙂
Today’s earworm playlist:
The Cure – ‘Lullaby’ M – ‘Pop Musik’ Queen – ‘One Vision’ 2 Unlimited – ‘No Limit’
…which really made me feel autumnal. I run a bit faster in the autumn because the weather conditions are best (and also usually because it’s my last push of race training for the season – we are yet to see if my last two autumn races standing will actually go ahead, but things may be very different this year… anyway, autumn is still associated with zipping along through the crunchy leaves for me, among many other things!). I expect we’re still due a bit of nice weather this month, though, so I won’t start hunting for Hallowe’en chocolate just yet.
I also didn’t run until lunchtime because I had a deadline for a client today and wanted to get the work done first thing. In that sense I was quite lucky with the weather today, as the last few days it would have been too warm to run comfortably after around 10am.
I’ve otherwise spent today getting on with admin and housework, and am looking forward to some videogaming time tonight as usual. I finished Kaptain Brawe: A Brawe New World yesterday, which is a decade-old game I’d been meaning to finish for years, and am planning to move onto Beyond A Steel Sky this evening.
Same again tomorrow, though I’m hoping to be awake earlier.
My most recent pair of running shoes (bought in Inverness in March when we were up for the half marathon… the last week that felt normal) are starting to wear down to the foam on the edges, even though I’ve been alternating them with my previous pair. I think I’m going to have to ease up on the leggings-buying and invest in one or two new pairs of shoes as my next running purchase – running every day really does wear them down.
Today’s earworm playlist:
Manami Kiyota – ‘Satorl Marsh’ New Order – ‘Blue Monday’ James – ‘Come Home’ Traditional – ‘The Blaydon Races’
I had another good few hours working on my text adventure today, and then went out for a nice long mid-afternoon walk (I’m getting a bit sick of having to use the treadmill in the evening to get my steps in!).
I’ve also been working on my poems for tomorrow’s poetry night. One of them relates to my adventure game, so I’m interested to see what the reception is.
Will report on how it went in tomorrow’s blog!
Sort of an OOTD: Reebok Freestyles and one of my transitional season trenchcoats for a nice crisp autumn day. Love kicking through the leaves!
Today’s earworm playlist:
Michael Land – The Barbery Coast The Sugarhill Gang – Apache Fascinating Aida – Cheap Flights Jon & Vangelis – I’ll Find My Way Home Michael Land – LeChuck’s Treasure Hold Squeeze – Tempted Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett – The Monster Mash
I’m finding it’s definitely coat weather now. I’m also finding I need to plug a few gaps in my September-to-January coat warmth spectrum, so for the moment I’m overheating slightly in one that’s a bit too heavy.
However, it’s nice to get out at the moment when it’s not raining, because the trees are turning beautifully and the leaves are nice to crunch through. I went for my usual Thursday walk to Slimming World and the supermarket this morning, and have been spending the rest of the day doing a bit of work.
More of the same tomorrow.
Not today’s OOTD: a favourite coat from three decades ago.
It was bright but a bit cold today. It’s starting to get dark around six now, and so I am on the sofa tonight with my blanket and a marathon of Strictly episodes to catch up with. May start lighting a few candles once I get a bit more organised later this week!
I’ve mainly been getting on with admin today – it’s going to be a quiet week (as far as I know!), so I’ll have a really good opportunity to catch up with everything. I’ll also finally be able to do some more work on my text adventure game!
I will get out for a run or a walk (or both if I’m up early enough) tomorrow – much as I’d like to snuggle up in the house for the rest of the season!
Not an OOTD: all the episodes of It Takes Two on the digibox for me to watch!
Today’s earworm playlist:
Slade – Coz I Luv You Duran Duran – White Lines Duran Duran – Come Undone Revo – Ship Upon The Open Skies Traditional – The Big Ship Sails On The Ally-Ally-O Wamdue Project – King Of My Castle The Knack – My Sharona Trevor Something – Miami Nights
The manic week continues. I’m looking forward to the weekend so I can get on with making a few improvements to my text adventure game.
After finishing off my poems for tonight’s poetry reading this morning (I really wish this didn’t get left till the last minute every month, but it is what it is), I had editing work to do for a client during the rest of the day. I then headed off to ukulele class (I’ve been able to squeeze in a bit of practice here and there over the last few days, so last week’s challenging songs are already feeling a bit less challenging!), followed by a mad dash to poetry night. I’m not really nervous about reading at poetry night anymore, and it’s become something I really enjoy doing every month.
I read a poem about autumn tonight. I love autumn.
I’ll love it a whole lot more once this ridiculously busy week is over.
Not really an OOTD (or at least an extremely belated one): discovering autumn for the first time, a very long time ago. Those crunchy leaves have never lost their appeal, although I’m probably less likely to try and eat them nowadays.
Today’s earworm playlist:
Michael Land – The Scumm Bar (MI4) Marilyn Monroe – Diamonds Are A Girl’s Best Friend Aaron Carter – Crush On You Duran Duran – Girl Panic! Chris Isaak – Wicked Game Jackson Browne – Rosie Duran Duran – Skin Trade Jim Croce – Bad, Bad Leroy Brown
I’m still not a hundred percent at the moment, but I am very happy that it’s the first day of the part of the year ending in ‘-ber’. I’ve not stuck my head out the door yet, but I will be getting up and going for my last longish run before the GNR tomorrow, so there’s that.
Have had another videogaming and reading day. Hopefully this weekend will have refreshed me enough that I’ll be able to get some good work hours in during the week.
Not an OOTD: the only calendar I keep from year to year. This is one of my favourite dates.
Today’s earworm playlist:
FM-84 and Ollie Wride – Never Stop Duran Duran – Michael, You’ve Got A Lot To Answer For Arcadia – Say The Word Duran Duran – White Lines Pulp – Common People Duran Duran – Hungry Like The Wolf Spandau Ballet – Gold
A combination of things has put me a little out of sorts the last couple of days, so I didn’t go to parkrun this morning. Not quite up for leaving the house just now. Still, as I type there are only four hours to go until the start of meteorological autumn, my favourite time of the year. Maybe I’ll stick my nose out of the door tomorrow in the hope of finding autumn leaves and cooling temperatures.
I’ve been playing videogames all day instead. Same again tomorrow, although I do need to get up and do a bit of admin/editing work in the morning to keep myself sane.
OOTD: not a face day. Hoodie Gildan for Resistanz (2013), t-shirt M’era Luna (2017).
Today’s earworm playlist:
Gunship – Dark All Day The B-52s – Rock Lobster Arcadia – Say The Word Arcadia – The Flame
Geth and I are back home in Newcastle after nine days of travelling! I have lots to update about from our travels, and will tell you all about it over the next few days. In the meantime, I am enjoying being back on my own sofa under a blanket (the weather has noticeably cooled, making me doubly excited for autumn) and not having to drive anywhere for a while (my wee Skoda has done some miles over the last week and a bit!).
Tonight I’m a bit too tired to do anything except veg, but I’m looking forward to getting caught up with everything tomorrow!
OOTD: back in my garden. Geth is not happy that the weeds have grown back while we’ve been away! Dress Primark (2018), tights Pretty Polly (2018), trainers Reebok (2013).
Today’s earworm playlist:
Queen – Somebody To Love Traditional – Fast Food Song* David Bowie – Fashion Mr Mister – Broken Wings Nick Heyward – Take That Situation The Midnight and Nikki Flores – Jason
*Specifically, the verse about the cars. If you were ever at Guide camp in the ’90s, you will know it.
I know I shouldn’t wish my life away, but today is the day I always start to get excited about autumn, my favourite season of the year.
It’s the first of August – just a month away from meteorological autumn – and while I know most people are still enjoying the summer (I’m not sure how, given that after last week’s brief heatwave the weather has since returned to a constant cool, grey dampness that means Geth can’t mow the lawn), I’m already dreaming of darker evenings and Hallowe’en chocolate and getting my ’80s jumper collection out again.
The BBC are starting to announce the first few Strictly contestants, and I’m stepping up my training for the Great North Run, and I’m already busy planning out my writing for all the fiction and poetry competitions I’m going to be entering from September to November. I’ve got a lot of gigs lined up for that period as well – it’s going to be a really great autumn this year!
In the meantime, I’ve got one last summer trip away to enjoy this month. It is Shetland, though, so I’m not hopeful for the weather (last time I was there, it rained the whole time).
A nice normal Thursday today now that we’ve got the internet back – Geth and I went to the earlier Slimming World group today so that we could be in when the new router arrived, and we’ve got boardgaming guests coming round this evening for more adventures in the Lord of the Rings universe.
OOTD: weigh-in top with added cosy hoodie due to the cooler weather. Glasses Emporio Armani (2017), hoodie Gildan for Resistanz (2016), vest top Primark (2018).
