Continuing the wind down

No ice cream post today – I’ll return to those in 2022 (and start thinking about the 2022 food series!).

Geth and I are back home after a lovely few days in Colne seeing Geth’s family. We’re now looking forward to enjoying lots of Christmas food made by ourselves tomorrow!

Mince pies
Mince pies, not made by ourselves but by Sainsburys. Very tasty though.

Flying Sunday post

It’s been a very frosty day. As such, my morning run was beautiful but very cold! I’ve been enjoying the warmth inside for the rest of the day, and caught up with the Strictly final, which I really enjoyed. I’ve got a bit of work for the week ahead but on the whole things are winding down for Christmas now.

parkrunday: Pendle #332

It’s been about two and a half years since Geth and I last did Pendle parkrun, for obvious reasons. The intervening quarter of a decade had slightly softened our memories of the toughness of the course when we arrived this morning, though they quickly came flooding back once we were underway! Definitely an even harder course in the winter, and the aim was just to plod round and enjoy my last parkrun of the year, but I was slightly disappointed to get my slowest time out of my five attempts at Pendle. We will be back in the spring and summer, and by then we will be in better shape.

Post-parkrun
Looking very tired just after finishing!

We’re not parkrunning on Christmas Day as family time is the priority, but I’m very much looking forward to a New Year’s Day parkrun to kick off 2022.

Phone Box Thursday: Whitley Bay Revisit

When Geth and I were in Whitley Bay after the North Tyneside 10k in October, I finally had the chance to take some better photos of the K4 phone box there!

I originally logged this phone box here (and promised to investigate its insides – I didn’t quite have time to do that but there will be many more trips to Whitley Bay I hope).

After-effects day 2

I’m still feeling rough after my booster yesterday morning. I had hoped to be done with the after-effects by now. However, it does make me feel really lucky that I was able to book a slot early so that this won’t interfere with Christmas. Hopefully I’ll feel a lot better tomorrow!

Twisty Little Passages
This is the book I got as a prize for winning the most recent jam I entered. It’s signed with a personal message from the author and only took six days to arrive from the US, which is impressive at this time of year!

Dozing

Feeling a bit rough after getting my booster vaccine this morning, so I’m trying to take it easy this evening. Fingers crossed the after-effects will be gone by tomorrow.

Booster leaflet
No card this time round so the info leaflet will have to do as a souvenir. Did the fifteen minute wait a few hours before it was discontinued!

Winding down

I’ve got two more work weeks to go before I can take my Christmas break, but I’m hoping there’ll be a gradual wind down now after a very busy year. Business has picked up over the course of 2021 in a way that I couldn’t have imagined at the start of the year, which has been amazing, but I’m still getting used to the vastly increased workload and will be having a bit of a rethink over Christmas about better ways of managing it all. My hours are much closer to full-time now, which has become very apparent as I’ve tried to fit my TechUp studying around work over the last couple of months, and next year my life needs to be planned accordingly. I can no longer just arrange midweek travelling on the assumption that I’ll only have to fit in a couple of days’ worth of work over the course of the week – I need to be at home so that I can get everything done. As such, it’ll be weekend travelling only in 2022, especially as I expect to be fairly busy with taking the first steps towards a career change post-TechUp.

It’s a bit daunting but it’s also exciting. I wonder what things will be like this time next year.

Winter trees
A good season for a bit of reflection.
