Only half a pound gain at Slimming World this morning. Considering the amount of cake I ate on holiday I think I’ve been very lucky! Definitely getting back to normal eating now though.
Have sorted out the house and am just getting on with a few admin jobs before our boardgaming guests arrive tonight.
OOTD: weigh-in outfit with added Back To The Future style! Back To The Future jacket All We Do (2019), vest top Primark (2018), leggings Primark (2018), trainers Reebok (2017).

After a short run this morning (decided on a rest week due to a few aches and pains – I’ll be back doing the longer distances next week), I spent most of the day doing some editing for a client (Masters dissertation season is still chugging along!) and then updating my to-do list/bullet journal, which I’ve been neglecting while I’ve been away.
Back to Slimming World to face the post-holiday music tomorrow morning! I’ve already got lots of ideas for healthy meals over the next few weeks, though, so I should be able to get rid of any gain fairly quickly.
OOTD: a fairly grey day, but I love this dress! Dress Tammy (1997), tights Primark (2017), shoes Just Cavalli (2018).

I know I shouldn’t wish my life away, but today is the day I always start to get excited about autumn, my favourite season of the year.
It’s the first of August – just a month away from meteorological autumn – and while I know most people are still enjoying the summer (I’m not sure how, given that after last week’s brief heatwave the weather has since returned to a constant cool, grey dampness that means Geth can’t mow the lawn), I’m already dreaming of darker evenings and Hallowe’en chocolate and getting my ’80s jumper collection out again.
The BBC are starting to announce the first few Strictly contestants, and I’m stepping up my training for the Great North Run, and I’m already busy planning out my writing for all the fiction and poetry competitions I’m going to be entering from September to November. I’ve got a lot of gigs lined up for that period as well – it’s going to be a really great autumn this year!
In the meantime, I’ve got one last summer trip away to enjoy this month. It is Shetland, though, so I’m not hopeful for the weather (last time I was there, it rained the whole time).
A nice normal Thursday today now that we’ve got the internet back – Geth and I went to the earlier Slimming World group today so that we could be in when the new router arrived, and we’ve got boardgaming guests coming round this evening for more adventures in the Lord of the Rings universe.
OOTD: weigh-in top with added cosy hoodie due to the cooler weather. Glasses Emporio Armani (2017), hoodie Gildan for Resistanz (2016), vest top Primark (2018).

Geth woke me with great excitement this morning because he’s had a paper accepted (it’s been a few years due to various things getting in the way of his research), and I was still on a high from giving a well-received performance at poetry night yesterday evening, so it was a good start to the day. Well, it was until I read all the newspaper headlines screaming ‘ARE YOU READY FOR THE HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR?’. Firstly, no I’m not, because I have to run 10k this evening and cooler temperatures would be preferable (the forecast is now saying thunderstorms – this could be interesting) and secondly, you don’t actually know that it’s the hottest day of the year until the year comes to an end, newspaper people.
Other than the uncomfortable heat, though, our good vibes have continued as Geth and I both had losses at Slimming World. Just hoping that the weather won’t make tonight’s race too miserable!
OOTD: shadows are not on my side when it’s this sunny. Sunglasses Ray-Ban (2019), vest top Primark (2018), skirt unknown brand (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair (2017), trainers Reebok (2018).

I’m getting a lot of writing done this year, which is great.
I’m also putting a lot of it out into the world, which is…anxiety-inducing, to say the least. I’m sending out the novel I’ve been working on since 2011 to another batch of agents at the moment. This is sort of its final chance – if I don’t have any success with it this time, I’ll be putting it on the back burner for a couple of years while I focus on pitching my more recent projects.
I’m also going out to perform poetry again tonight. I was really hoping that it would get easier but I still find I’m horribly nervous beforehand!
There’s also a lot of interesting writing competitions with autumn deadlines that I’m excited about, so I’m going to be fairly busy with writing over the next few months. I don’t mind, though, ’cause it’s the only kind of busy I like.
Today I’ve finished yet another draft of my 1970s-set rock star novel and written half the prologue for a competition story, so it’s been a productive day. Tomorrow, on the other hand, will be fairly light on writing as Geth and I have Slimming World in the morning and then a 10k in the evening!
OOTD: still too warm on this uncomfortably muggy day. Top David Emanuel (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2018), leggings Primark (2018), trainers Reebok (2018).

A fairly busy Thursday today. Geth and I were out at Slimming World in the morning – we both had small gains but that’s to be expected after a weekend away – and after a trip to the polling station to vote in the PCC elections, I spent the afternoon getting the house ready for our boardgaming gathering tonight.
Back to writing tomorrow!
OOTD: a slightly different weigh-in outfit! Sunglasses Ray-Ban (2019), t-shirt Campus Crew for Toronto Blue Jays (2018), leggings Primark (2018), trainers Reebok (2017).

Geth and I arrived back in Newcastle this evening after a weekend in Colne with the in-laws. I drove there and back and find that I’m getting more used to my new car now.
We had a nice quiet morning today and then went for lunch with my mother-in-law Anne – Boundary Mill in Colne have a nice new pizzeria. There was a lot of pizza this weekend so Geth and I will be doing Slimming World ‘SP days’ the rest of the week to make up for it!
A quiet evening in with writing and my 3DS before getting back to work tomorrow.
Mark Knopfler – Local Hero Duran Duran – Union Of The Snake Rod Stewart – Da Ya Think I’m Sexy? Duran Duran – Hungry Like The Wolf Hitoshi Sakimoto – Final Fantasy XII Main Theme Miley Cyrus – Mother’s Daughter
I lost another pound at Slimming World this morning. Very happy with that! I’m only having small losses at the moment, but it’s the fourth week in a row I haven’t gained (and also the fourth week in a row that I’ve been keeping a food diary to hand in at group, which is why I’m going to keep doing them until I get back to my target range!). I also broke my streak of always gaining on race weeks, which really proves I just need to avoid overeating after races.
I then spent a nice evening with Geth’s family trying out a new boardgame. Looking forward to a quiet day tomorrow.
OOTD: all in black for weigh-in. Vest top Primark (2018), leggings Primark (2018), trainers Reebok (2013).

It’s another fairly busy day today. Geth and I went to Slimming World in the morning – I maintained this week but I’m fine with that because it’s been a very up-and-down week – and I’m now spending the afternoon getting on with day job work, admin, and housework before our boardgaming guests arrive this evening for the start of our Lord of the Rings: Journeys in Middle Earth campaign.
A slightly quieter day tomorrow.
OOTD: a slightly more summery weigh-in outfit. Vest top Primark (2018), skirt unknown brand (vintage 1980s, bought at vintage fair 2017), trainers Reebok (2017).

Finally some nice weather today! And I made the most of it by…staying in the house all day ’cause I was a bit tired after last night. Got to get that garden finished so that I’m more inclined to sit out!
Last night was hectic but ultimately successful. I lost for the second week in a row at Slimming World – only a pound, but I’d rather get into a pattern of small losses every week than keep doing the ‘lose five, gain five!’ thing that has characterised my results since race season began. My next race is the Great North 10k on the 7th of July, and I am so determined not to gain that week. I’ll have to be really strict to mitigate the post-race bloat that always seems to happen at the moment.
I then went to ukulele class – it was running late, so I had to skip out before the last song, as I wanted to get to poetry night in time to make sure I could read again. I’m still a bit nervous before performing, but I think I’m gradually getting better at it. Geth took a video, which I *may* be brave enough to post later in the week (no promises though!).
Have had a fairly quiet day today – Mum and Dad visited in the morning on their way back from Sweden, and I’ve spent the afternoon getting on with writing. Just a few things to finish off tomorrow and then I can chill out for the weekend.
OOTD: blue Thursday! Sunglasses Ray-Ban (2019), t-shirt Ron Holland for Cambridge University (vintage 1970s, thrifted from Dad 2012), jeans Vivid (2018), trainers Reebok (2017).
