Back to the slow short runs this morning…

…and then I spent the afternoon doing housework and admin. Mum and Dad are visiting tomorrow so I’m looking forward to a nice time with them.

Next door’s cat is being especially persistent about trying to get into our house at the moment. I’m not sure if it’s because something smells particularly interesting in here or if his own humans are out more than usual!

A rainbow made an appearance this afternoon. A bit prettier than our recent weather!

Today’s earworm playlist:

Gunship – ‘Art3mis And Parzival’

Bubbles and cards

It was mine and Geth’s seventh wedding anniversary today. I think we would probably have both liked to spend the whole day in the house chilling out companionably and listening, given that it was REALLY miserable outside! However, I am absolutely determined to hit that 100th parkrun on the 7th of December, so we dragged ourselves out of the house and headed to a very wet Jesmond Dene. It was not a fast run in the slightest, but that’s ninety-eight out of a hundred done. Celebratory cake in two weeks’ time!

We then spent the afternoon in town, as Geth was interviewing pathologist Dr Richard Shepherd in front of an audience for the Books On Tyne book fair. It was a really interesting discussion, and I’ll be reading Dr Shepherd’s book as a result. Lovely to see so many friends in the audience as well!

The evening was all about cards, pizza and nosecco – the last of which has been an absolute lifesaver since I got sober in January, because I think I would have felt really miserable without a celebratory fizzy option on special occasions.

Looking forward to a nice quiet day working on my NaNo tomorrow!

1000 posts!

This is my thousandth post on this blog! It’s not a particularly impressive one, I’m afraid, since I’ve been busy with work this evening so only have time for a quick update. I’m spending time with the family over the next few days as my brother and sister-in-law are over from Canada – it should be a really good week.

A family gathering

Just a quick post tonight as I’ve only just got back from my cousin Jen’s 30th birthday family celebration, which was a textbook Cooke gathering. The Cookes are numerous and we eat a lot of cake. I was being good so I restricted myself to one slice, but I could have easily sampled all of the different types of cake on offer – they looked amazing. There was plenty of on-plan quiche and salad too, so lots of eating to be done! Thanks to Fiona and Bill for putting it all on.

It was so lovely to see most of the extended family, as we don’t get to meet up with each other an awful lot these days.

I also managed to get my weekend long run in this morning! This means I don’t have to do it tomorrow afternoon, which is great. It also meant I was able to test out eating prior to running, as I went out after breakfast.

I’ve also been able to sample a few good booze alternatives this weekend – R White’s Lemonade, Nosecco, and Britvic Ginger Beer – so I’ll be tracking them all down again in order to do proper reviews.
