Carousel, 1989

There’s a Christmas cake on the table too, but the wee bro and I were more interested in the carousel. It plays music if you pull the tab.

Christmas tree, 1994

Still no running vlog. Sorry I’m behind with that, it’s been a mad few days! I’ll try and have it posted by Wednesday.

I’m taking a bit of time off over Christmas, so for the next couple of weeks, I’ll be posting an old photo every day instead of doing a diary blog post.

Christmas 1994, and the very first picture I ever took with my own camera (an Olympus, for which I was never able to change the film without help from my dad). All of my early photos were really squint!

Pet Shop Boys – ‘Heart’
Robbie Williams – ‘Time For Change’

Saturday ’80s Photo: Vintage Pink & Black Jumper

I live in vintage ’80s jumpers at this time of year, and this pink and black one – picked up at a vintage fair in late 2017 – is still one of my favourites.

Vintage '80s jumper

This year, I’ve been wearing it with my Christmas loungewear from Lucy Locket Loves, because it really picks up the bright pink stars in the pattern. Wide trousers are not super ’80s so I tuck them into slouch boots if I want to look period appropriate!

Phone Box Thursday: Ireland Street, Warrington

Bill sent in this white-painted phone box from the Halliwell Jones garage in Warrington.

(Coordinates 53°40’20.4″N, 2°59’36.3″W.)

Interestingly, this box has only recently been painted white. In all the Street View images from 2014 to 2019, you can see that it used to be yellow! Either way, it makes a very nice addition to the garage forecourt.

Back to the regularly-scheduled red phone boxes next week.

Saturday ’80s Photo: ‘Free Nelson Mandela’ Badge

I’ve had this badge since 1988.

'Free Nelson Mandela' badge

Mum and Dad took me to the ‘Free Nelson Mandela’ march on Glasgow Green. I was only three but I remember the crowds and the chanting vividly, and being able to watch the speakers and performers on the stage from a long way back in the crowd. I have a memory of being up on a ladder in order to be able to see, although I may be misremembering this as I’m not sure we would have taken a ladder all the way from Edinburgh!

I have a lot of badges, but this is the most special one.

Phone Box Thursday: Forest Hall, Newcastle upon Tyne

Here’s another phone box from the yard I mentioned last week.

Red phone box
Red phone box, Forest Hall, Newcastle upon Tyne, 21st September 2020.

(I won’t post the exact street or GPS coordinates as it looks like private property.)

This box is a K6, and looks pretty dinky next to last week’s K2. There are a lot of vintage postboxes there too, but I’m not in the business of ‘Postbox Monday’ so it was just the phone boxes I photographed!

Further south again next week.
