Duran day

Just a quick post this morning as I’m travelling today for a concert. Going to see Duran Duran again – a gig that was booked for 2020 originally and has been postponed twice. It’ll be lovely to go finally.

Quite a lot on this month but I’m focusing on one thing at a time as it’s a bit overwhelming otherwise!

Game to run and back

Bit of an out-of-sorts day coming up tomorrow as I’ve got the Blaydon Race in the evening, which means I won’t be doing my usual daily run in the morning. That’ll feel strange! But it means I can get stuff done first thing, which I’m not used to.

I’m very nearly done with my current game incarnation – just a few things to sort this evening and then I can send it to the next round of testers. Glad to be hitting that milestone as it’s taken a bit longer than expected.

Plans make everything better

Geth and I have got quite a lot happening over the summer, as I might have mentioned. Summers were always busy in the past but this is something I need to get used to again after a couple of quieter pandemic years. My natural ‘happy place’ is sitting on my sofa at home – going out and doing things is always lovely when I get there, but I find it quite difficult being out of my usual routine.

I do always feel better when things are planned out though. We’re doing a short trip this weekend and Geth has done the itinerary for it today, meaning I’m quite excited for it now (because I can visualise much better what I’ll be doing – and, importantly, where I’m running!).

What day is it again?

The long weekend has confused my internal clock (something easily done) and I keep thinking it’s Tuesday today. Yesterday I kept thinking it was Saturday.

Either way it’s been a good day. I had a sports massage at the physio (and got some more advice for honing my strength training routine). After work I was also able to work on my game for a bit. Progress every day!

Summer week two

Quick post tonight as I’m just sorting a few things out after game-making all day. It’ll be nice to get back into routine tomorrow… for a little while at least.

Still excited about bumbling along the Blaydon Race this next week. Four days to go!

Summer is here

It crept up on me this year because I’ve been so preoccupied with marathon training and coding stuff since January. But it’s now warm-ish, I’ve not slept well for a few weeks because of the light, the spring marathon is done and I have a packed couple of months of mini-trips lined up. Including going abroad for the first time in four years! It’ll be really strange to be on planes again.

However, for the moment, Geth and I are back home in Newcastle after a nice few days in Edinburgh recovering from the marathon. A quiet-ish weekend beckons if you don’t count the jubilee stuff going on in our street and at parkrun and on the TV!

Runniversary day

Global Running Day today coincided with my seventh runniversary! Seven years since I started running on 1st June 2015. I’m still very much in marathon recovery mode but I did manage my basic one-mile plod to celebrate.

I’ve mentally recovered enough now that I’m able to work on my game again and have made a start today. Looking forward to curling up with the project this weekend.

Recovery week

The marathon has taken quite a lot out of me and so I’m a bit out of routine this week. I spent a lot of today flat out in bed, not sleeping but feeling too out of it even to look at my phone! Appetite hasn’t properly returned yet either. Hoping to feel a bit more alive by the end of the week.

I’m already quite excited about the Blaydon Race next Thursday – it’ll be nice to do a shorter race again. It won’t be a fast one as I’ll still be recovering to some extent, but I’m looking forward to the atmosphere. It’s been a big miss for the last couple of years.

Big weekend begins

Surrounded by stuff at the moment because it’s not possible to pack light for a marathon. I still haven’t made final decisions about various bits of race kit. Need to cover every option just in case.

Another concert tonight! I would not normally attend a gig the same weekend as running a marathon, but this is one of those postponed-from-2020 concerts so it couldn’t be helped. I am quite looking forward to it. And also glad that it’s one of those ones where we’ll be sitting down.

So close to the race now!

Ticking the days off

Four days to go till marathon day. Itching to get going now! My head is full of backup plans (because I’m worried about various things not going as expected) and I am looking forward to not thinking about those anymore.

I’ve got quite a bit to do on my game draft but I’m hopeful that I will at least have it in a playable enough state by tomorrow night that I can get the testing underway.
