This box had sadly been emptied of its phone and contained a notice informing the community that it would soon be removed and sent off to the phone box graveyard. RIP phone box. It had become fairly well-kept since the Google Street View photo was taken too 🙁
…because I’ve got a half marathon this weekend – my first race of the year!
It’s standard to book in for a half marathon about seven or eight weeks before a full marathon, as part of the training plan. It gives you a good benchmark for how you’re getting on. As such, I’m a bit nervous about it, but recent training suggests that I might be able to get a good PB, so we will just have to see how it goes on the day.
We’re making a bit of a weekend of it, so Geth and I have spent today making various preparations. I think we’ve covered just about every weather possibility, and Geth has bought several different types of protein bars!
Next bit of prep is a recovery mile tomorrow morning, for which I absolutely have to keep it slow (legs are very excited at the moment and want to sprint). In the meantime, we’re watching the US Olympic marathon trials to get ourselves (even more) in the running mood!
Love a bit of running TV in the build-up to a race weekend 😀
Today’s earworm playlist:
Duran Duran – ‘New Moon On Monday’ Justin Bieber – ‘Love Yourself’
…and then I spent a very pleasant afternoon putting together the code for the text adventure game that I’ve spent the last few weeks building in my head and on paper. Ideally I’d have been able to start getting into the coding a few weeks ago, but life has been a bit hectic (as usual!) and I also kept changing my mind about which of my game project ideas would be best suited to the current Adventuron jam. Anyway, I thought it would be another last-minute entry for me this time round, but the deadline’s been extended today and so I can spend the next week tweaking and playtesting, which is great!
I then got a bit of editing for clients done, and am now having a quiet evening before a day of (mostly) admin tomorrow.
One of my game locations. Wonder what my theme is? 😉
Today’s earworm playlist:
Normani – ‘Motivation’ Biffy Clyro – ‘Many Of Horror’ Queen – ‘Flash’ Justin Bieber – ‘Love Yourself’ Lizzo – ‘Truth Hurts’ Alanis Morissette – ‘Hand In My Pocket’ Duran Duran – ‘Perfect Day’
Because I went to the Social Run Group again today, I didn’t do my run until the evening…
…which meant that my day was a bit backwards and I was at a bit of a loose end this morning without my usual run! Geth and I were up fairly early as our new dishwasher was delivered first thing. It’s our first dishwasher and is going to make life a lot easier in the house, especially in the autumn (washing the dishes is Geth’s domain, but during busy work periods he often finds that he doesn’t have enough time to do it).
I then spent the day getting a bit of admin and day job work done (and some work done on my very last-minute entry into this month’s game jam!) before heading out to the run. It’s been nice to have a quiet evening since then!
I know this is a super boring photo but I am SO HAPPY that the dishwasher has arrived 😀
Another tough Sunday long run in the high winds today…
…and since then I’ve just been on the sofa collating pictures from the last few years (which is a job I’ve been putting off for ages, so I’m glad it’s finally getting done). Geth has arrived back home from a Keyforge tournament after being away for the weekend, and I’m looking forward to having a quiet few days before the first race of the season next week.
Rising Sun – the second of the two parkrun courses that I incorporated into my long run today. Hadn’t done the parkrun in ages and had forgotten what a nice place it is. Definitely one for the summer months though as the course is currently very muddy and wet.
Today’s earworm playlist:
Justin Bieber – ‘Love Yourself’*
*This is an interesting song to learn on the ukulele but a horrifically annoying earworm, especially when it’s been four days solid and your brain is now dragging it around for a seventeen-mile run.
