Slowly improving the habitat

A recovery mile this morning…

…and then Mum and Dad popped in again so that we could finish off the last few jobs in the bathrooms. Towel rings now installed! Dad has also taken our old laptops home with him for further Linux experimentation.

I’ve spent the afternoon getting on with admin (and daydreaming about further home improvements). Back to work tomorrow.

Towel ring
The sheer beige intensity of my bathroom photos has me itching to repaint the downstairs one in some really bright, funky colour. Like purple, or possibly tropical mango. I might see what’s on offer in the paint section next time I’m at a hardware shop.

Today’s earworm playlist:

The Midnight – ‘Crystalline’
Justin Timberlake – ‘Can’t Stop The Feeling’

Phone Box Thursday: Clifton Street, Laugharne

Another phone box from Mum and Dad’s Welsh trip, this time in Laugharne (most famous as the resting place of Dylan Thomas).

The paint on this one is a bit faded, but the surroundings are very pretty. The box now contains a defibrillator instead of a phone, which is top quality phone box re-use!

More from Wales next week.

Walls

After my midweek run…

…Mum and Dad came round again, and Dad and I had another go at the old laptops. Putting Linux on them was a little more complicated than expected, so Dad is going to take them home and keep experimenting.

We did however manage to get a couple of things put up in the downstairs bathroom that I’d been meaning to do for two years. Every little helps!

We also had a lovely meal out with cousins Douglas and Freya at our favourite tapería in town. As such, I won’t be going to Slimming World weigh-in tomorrow – might make it to the Friday session but we’ll see! I need to digest a lot of tatties first 🙂

Bathroom decor
Like the rest of the house, it still looks very beige and boring, but it’s nice to have the cabinet and mirror up.

Today’s earworm playlist:

Vera van Heeringen – ‘Riverside House’
Jason Donovan – ‘Too Many Broken Hearts’
David Bowie – ‘Ashes To Ashes’
Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber – ‘I Don’t Care’
Animotion – ‘Obsession’
FM-84 and Ollie Wride – ‘Running In The Night’

And a bonus track that Geth was humming earlier:

Nena – ’99 Red Balloons’

Computer management

After my Tuesday recovery mile…

…Mum and Dad arrived (it’s Dad’s birthday today). Dad and I then spent the afternoon experimenting with a couple of old laptops that Geth and I want to put Linux on, as Windows 7 is slow and less supported these days. It looks like we’ll be able to get that finished tomorrow hopefully!

We then went out to the Redhouse in Newcastle for Dad’s birthday meal out. I hadn’t been there for more than three years, since before I started Slimming World, because I have no idea how many syns are in one of their pies! Just have to estimate it this week… The pies are amazing though.

More house-sorting to do (and nice food to eat) tomorrow.

Visitors

Back to the slow short runs this morning…

…and then I spent the afternoon doing housework and admin. Mum and Dad are visiting tomorrow so I’m looking forward to a nice time with them.

Next door’s cat is being especially persistent about trying to get into our house at the moment. I’m not sure if it’s because something smells particularly interesting in here or if his own humans are out more than usual!

Rainbow
A rainbow made an appearance this afternoon. A bit prettier than our recent weather!

Today’s earworm playlist:

Scandroid – ‘Aphelion’
Gunship – ‘Art3mis And Parzival’
Rihanna – ‘Diamonds’
FM-84 and Ollie Wride – ‘Running In The Night’
Ollie Wride – ‘Back To Life’
Rihanna and Drake – ‘What’s My Name?’

Sunday afternoons hibernating

A speedier-than-expected long run this morning…

…and since then I’ve just been dozing and browsing on the sofa. Love Sundays! I’ve got lots to do tomorrow so I’m glad to be able to have a break today.

France, July 1995
Yup, it’s another summer holiday flashback, this time to France in July 1995. While winter can be beautiful in its own way, I’m looking forward to seeing some colour in the world again.

Today’s earworm playlist:

The Midnight – ‘Crystalline’
The Midnight and Nikki Flores – ‘Jason’
Scandroid – ‘Aphelion’
Traditional – ‘The Blaydon Races’
Del Amitri – ‘Nothing Ever Happens’
Lindisfarne – ‘Fog On The Tyne’

Speeding up

A faster-than-expected parkrun today…

…and then a nice lazy afternoon browsing online. Looking forward to a similar day tomorrow!

Front seat in the Metro train
I was able to sit in the ‘driver’s seat’ at the front of the Metro train today when travelling back from South Shields parkrun. Not a hugely inspiring vista when it’s a grey winter’s day in the north-east of England, but I like watching the tracks 🙂

Today’s earworm playlist:

The Midnight – ‘Kick Drums And Red Wine’
Sacre – ‘The London Marathon’
The Midnight – ‘Gloria’

Ticking things off

Another short run…

…and then I headed to my second counselling session. I think it’s probably good to be able to talk about things, but I still feel a bit unfocused in the sessions. I am finding that some things are a bit clearer, but I need to spend more time writing everything down in order to process that.

Then it was another afternoon doing admin and house stuff. Looking forward to more running adventures this weekend!

Cadbury's Roses
Geth brought these home as a Valentine’s Day extra. Carefully fitted some into the day’s eating plan!

Today’s earworm playlist:

Timecop1983 and The Midnight – ‘Static’
The Midnight – ‘Lost Boy’
Sacre – ‘The London Marathon’
Carl Orff – ‘Gassenhauer’

A dreary Thursday

Short run today…

…and a bit of a disappointing result at Slimming World – only half a pound off despite working really hard for it this week 🙁 Still six pounds away from target range. I really had hoped to get there by the end of February but it’s looking unlikely now.

I’ve spent the afternoon working on house stuff and admin. Other than my counselling appointment, it’s looking like tomorrow will be similar.

Snowdrops
At least the snowdrops are out now! Always appreciate these early signs of spring when the weather is still miserable.

Today’s earworm playlist:

The Midnight – ‘Jason’
The Midnight – ‘Collateral’
The Midnight – ‘Vampires’
Soft Cell – ‘Say Hello, Wave Goodbye’
FM-84 and Ollie Wride – ‘Running In The Night’

Phone Box Thursday: National Museum of History, St Fagans

This week sees the second phone box that Mum and Dad found at the National Museum of History.

Red phone box

(Coordinates 51°48’77.6″N, 3°27’80.3″W.)

Again, this phone box is part of a museum, so it’s very well-kept! I’m glad to see these examples being looked after – it’s so depressing when they’re left to rot at the side of the road until someone ships them off to the phone box graveyard.

The next few boxes from Mum and Dad’s Welsh trip sadly do include some doomed specimens. Stay tuned for the next few weeks…
