There is definitely some actual caramel sauce in this and it makes the sweetness level perfect for my taste. It also melts really well, which can’t be said for all the ice creams I’ve tried this year!
…because we’ve had two varieties of it this year – they’ve seemingly changed the recipe. The first variety contained actual chunks of cake within the ice cream. Geth was a big fan of that one but I wasn’t so keen – I didn’t like the soggy texture of the cake chunks. They then switched to a variety that didn’t have the cake but had chewy candy sprinkles in it instead. The taste of the actual ice cream hasn’t changed – it’s nice, but a little too sweet for me. There are other flavours of Asda ice cream that I much prefer.
While pesto is my favourite food, it’s also fairly calorific, and so I can’t eat it every single day (much as I would like to!). As such, I usually give lower-fat versions a try when I see them. They’re not usually much cop, but I live in hope!
This Asda version was… no exception. Tasteless and a bit unpleasantly chewy. My search for a tasty low-calorie option continues! In the meantime, I’ll continue to save pesto for a weekly treat.
This is my favourite jarred pesto of the last few years and I eat it every week!
Once upon a time, all jarred green pesto tasted like pesto alla genovese. Then over time, the pesto companies changed their recipes (presumably so they could use less-standard ingredients) and now pesto alla genovese is the posh / deluxe version. The Asda Extra Special stuff is perfect. Perfect taste, perfect texture, perfect richness. Just what pesto should be.
It’s two whole days till I get to eat it again. I want some now!
I was expecting big things from this pesto, because its green equivalent (to be logged soon) is one of my very favourite pestos of all time. The tomato version doesn’t quite reach the same heights, but it’s still a very respectable offering.
The tomato taste in this pesto is nice and rich, and it feels like a luxury option. The only thing I would change is that it’s a little too oily – I would hold up the Sacla equivalent (also to be logged soon) as the gold standard for oil level in a tomato pesto, while most supermarket luxury range pestos such as this one tend to go with the ‘floating in oil’ effect. It doesn’t spoil the taste though!
I had this oven pizza with the in-laws when I was in Colne over the weekend. I was so hungry that I forgot to take a photo of the actual pizza, so here’s the box instead!
I’m not usually a fan of multi-cheese pizzas (plain old mozzarella is my preference) but this one was really good. The stuffed crust was nice as well – not too rich like I sometimes find stuffed crusts to be.
