This one still had a phone in it, which is unusual these days! Sadly, it also had a notice inside informing the locals that it was being removed soon.
It’s fairly tatty and looks as though it has been in a state of disrepair for some time. Still, it’s sad to see that this one, like so many others, is due to be carted off to the phone box graveyard.
…because I overslept this morning. Nine and a half hours of sleep needed last night, apparently! I had hoped that the mornings getting gradually lighter and sunnier would wake me up earlier, but it’s not happening yet.
I’ve spent the afternoon doing housework, admin and graphics creation, and am looking forward to another evening of gaming – I’ve got a good stack of 3DS games on the go at the moment.
Some of the games I have on the go right now (although I should put Miracle Mask back on the shelf because I 100%ed it the other day). I’ve probably got about a year’s worth of games I want to finish on the 3DS before moving on to a Switch Lite, although I may manage it sooner than that depending on how long lockdown lasts (and the extent to which my other gaming consoles and PC capture my attention!).
Today’s earworm playlist:
Revo – ‘The Land Of Radiant Flowers’ Queen – ‘Another One Bites The Dust’ Sting – ‘Englishman In New York’ Nintendo 3DS eShop – ‘Main Theme’ Nobuo Uematsu – ‘Let The Battles Begin!’
I went out for an absolutely beautiful run this morning…
…with perfect sunshine, and perfect energy, and so many lovely spring flowers along the way. I’m planning to do a few new and different routes this week and am really excited about my morning runs. They get me out of the house for just long enough every day that I don’t feel trapped or cooped up by the lockdown, and am perfectly content to stay inside for the rest of the time.
In all honesty, other than the general feeling of apocalyptic dread and accompanying nightmares (which I’m guessing is the case for everyone at the moment), I have been lucky enough that the current situation is working out quite well for me:
While my day job work has slowed down a bit, it hasn’t stopped completely, and I work from home anyway so haven’t had to adapt my work setup.
Obviously I was hugely disappointed a month ago when it was announced that the London Marathon was postponed, because training had been going so well. However, I’m really appreciating the more relaxed approach to running I can take at the moment, and I hope that I’ll be able to build on the work I’ve already done and run an even better time in October, presuming the new date goes ahead.
Stress-wise, I am actually benefiting hugely from life going on hold. For the last couple of years, I have felt as though I have had far too much on and have been constantly falling behind with my to-do list. I end up dreading going away on trips, because I know it will disrupt my daily routine so badly and lead to weeks of stress as I try to catch up with everything. But right now, I have nothing getting in the way: all my trips and events have been cancelled or postponed, and all my weekly classes and meetings are on hold. Every day is exactly the same, and for me, it turns out that that is exactly what I need. I am going to have to do some serious thinking about what life is going to look like for me after the lockdown is over.
I feel pretty guilty that it has taken a horrible worldwide pandemic for me to have the free time I’ve been dreaming of for years, but it has given me the impetus to reassess my priorities in life.
Tomorrow is a Wednesday, but that doesn’t really matter right now. I’ve got no middling-distance midweek run to do, no ukulele class to go to, no worries about fitting everything else in inbetween. It will be very similar to today, and that is absolutely fine by me.
Another paparazzo shot of next door’s cat exploring our garden. He’s a little confused by theshorter grass now that Geth is out mowing it regularly again.

Cast of The Lion King – ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight?’
…because Easter Sunday was so enjoyable that Geth and I are going to try and have a similar day today with lots of videogaming. As such, I just did a quick run so that I could get it out the way. Lots of interesting routes planned for the week ahead though!
I’m also having a day off before getting back to working on my various game projects tomorrow. Just getting a bit of daily admin done and then I’ll be settling down with my 3DS. It was a lot of fun yesterday playing Professor Layton and Fire Emblem games with the soundtrack of Final Fantasy VII in the background (as I mentioned yesterday, Geth is playing the original game again, and the music is fab!). However, I’m going to take a bit of a break from my ongoing games today and get into a new one, as I’ve fallen into a bit of a grinding hole with most of the ones I’m playing.
Back to the normal (well, pandemic-normal) routine tomorrow.
This is a lovely game to have in the background. Geth is playing it at a rate of knots, but hopefully it’ll last him for a while yet!

Nobuo Uematsu – ‘Mako Reactor’ Tomohito Nishiura – ‘City Of Miracles’ Cast of The Jungle Book – ‘I Wanna Be Like You (The Monkey Song)’ The Dubliners – ‘Rocky Road To Dublin’
…because I had chocolate eggs waiting for me for breakfast!
I’m having a very relaxed Easter Sunday. I released the final version of Goblin Decathlon (with added graphics) this morning, and am looking forward to moving onto my next game. Today, though, is all about chilling out – Geth is starting a new playthrough of the original version of Final Fantasy VII, as we won’t be getting the new remake until we decide on a next-generation console. I’m looking forward to having the FFVII music in the room – it’s probably one of my favourite game atmospheres of all time.
Wishing you all a peaceful day.
This little lot should keep us going for a while!

I did my first pace run in two weeks this morning…
…and I didn’t do too badly considering I’ve been taking it easy for a fortnight! I am missing parkrun on Saturdays, but I’m hopeful that I will be able to maintain my speed during this lockdown.
I’ve now got an afternoon and evening of game creation and game playing to look forward to. I feel fairly lucky that I’m an introvert and a homebody anyway, so I can keep myself quite content during this awful world situation, but I know it must be pretty unbearable for people who thrive on social contact.
Tomorrow will be similar, with added Easter chocolate 🙂
Light at the end of the tunnel. Made for my upcoming graphical update of Goblin Decathlon.

Just a quick mile to kick off my next hundred days on my run streak…
…and then I came home for hot cross buns. I’m now making the most of the start of the long weekend – I’ve used some Easter discount codes to buy some more funky-patterned running tights. Unfortunately most of the old capri leggings I’ve been wearing for my daily runs were bought when I was bigger, just don’t fit right for running anymore, and will have to be relegated to Pilates/yoga/round-the-house leggings. This wasn’t a problem in previous years when I was only running between one and three times a week and so basically always used the same old reliable pair of Karrimor drawstring capris I’ve had since 2015, but based on our typical laundry schedule/occasional longer trips away, I do need a few more pairs that don’t keep having to be yanked up while running.
Also, funky-patterned leggings are amazing, whether you’re doing exercise or not.
Going to be spending the rest of the day (and most of the Easter weekend) making and playing videogames 🙂
I hit 100 days on my ‘run every day’ streak today!
Despite the awful world situation that has transpired over the last few months, I’ve felt happier and more stable in my own life than I have in a long time. Getting out for a run every day really lifts my mood, and I plan to continue my streak indefinitely.
I’ve spent most of today finishing off day job work ahead of the Easter weekend, and making a multicoloured wall chart to keep track of all of our cancelled and postponed events. I’m looking forward to getting a bit more work done on my text adventure projects this evening.
Geth and I are also starting the long weekend off with a Maundy Thursday takeaway. In my drinking days it used to be a Maundy Thursday pint, and last year it was a Maundy Thursday synthwave night, but I’m very happy for the tradition to move to Domino’s Pizza this year. However, with the exception of my Easter egg, I’ll be eating healthily the rest of the week – I’m finding my weight loss has stalled a little since my marathon training came to a screeching halt, so I need to keep more of an eye on it.
Hope everyone has as good an Easter weekend as can be expected given the circumstances!
If there’s one thing parkrun has taught me, it’s that you celebrate running milestones with cake.

Dad emailed me the following with regards to this box last October:
‘It’s here […] but wasn’t when the Google street view was done – there’s a post office van there! They have made a bit of wall between the gatepost and the old wall, and added a phonebox from somewhere! So this one isn’t in its original location.’
Strange that a phone box would be moved to a new rural location! I wonder where it was originally.
…because I wanted to get home quickly and get on with today’s projects. I’ve done a whole separate post about my current adventures in creating game graphics, which is my main focus this week. It’s a lot of fun but also takes a long time!
I find that my hobbies have sort of expanded to fill my current additional free time, and am starting to worry that once this lockdown is over, I’ll go back to feeling like I never have enough time for the things I love doing. One thing that I definitely need to do (and this has been a bit of a theme recently) is learn to let go of the things in life that I’m not enjoying but instead just doing out of obligation.
Tomorrow should be a really good day – I’ll be doing my special run for RED day 100, then a bit of day job work, and then Easter weekend can begin. It’ll be a fairly unusual Easter weekend given the circumstances, but I’m still looking forward to a few days relaxing and the occasional bit of chocolate.
Today’s bit of garden progress: more spring flowers have appeared. Due to the current situation, I’m appreciating our garden a lot more than usual!
